Cake attempt two. Just filled it with raspberry preserves and made lemon American buttercream. I know the strawberry jam and strawberry powder in the frosting worked so I’m saving those for the final cake. Hoping this sponge is better, cross your fingers for me.

Finished the test cake for niece’s birthday. The sponge is a little over baked and I’m not sold on the hybrid buttercream, but overall I think it turned out well!

Dug up 13 ft of neglected garden bed and planted all native plants. God a variety of soil conditions because I have no idea what will like it there, so half of it’s going to die, but that’s how we learn!

Got my tiny strawberry frog from @tamiwicinas.bsky.social and it’s somehow more adorable than I thought it would be!

Got my @cardsagainsthumanity.com Black Friday win in the mail today. My own custom print copy of Epstein’s 50th Birthday book, with six custom CAH cards. CAH were not messing around with this one.

- Ghislaine Maxwell, whose name is apparently not pronounced “jizz lane.”

Did get to see how demonic the hot dog statues get at night though, so that’s fun.

Very excited about this latest bookmail!I pre-ordered Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die by Greer Stothers because the summary made it sound like a romp, but the book itself is beautiful! Who doesn’t love a pretty edition and a sprayed edge?

Today we stopped at Pink Elephant Antique Mall’s Twistee Treat diner for lunch in Illinois. Fun, makes a fantastic malt, food was fine. Three year old once again over the moon, this time mostly related to the cup of mayo they served with the burgers (he’s a mayo addict).

Stopped at a whole series of Rt 66 diners on this trip without planning on it, including one in Oklahoma that helped inspire the Cars film. The 3 year old nibbling was thrilled with that one.

First of the new additions to the Godzilla Stairway Gallery framed and hung! This piece is a print of “Godzilla in a Bottle” by Cassia Lupo.

Why does my typewriter hate Edinburgh?

Multiple attempts to type David Fleck “Voyagers Over Edinburgh” Art Print, 2012 on a typewriter. Edinburgh gets progressively printed worse and mysteriously becomes wavey as the attempts persist.

Absolutely destroyed the niblings at Monopoly this afternoon.

A monopoly board with hotels on the entire first half of the board plus Marvin Gardens and Boardwalk. The rest of the properties are adorned with multiple houses. Got up early to get a small hike in at the local sedge marsh. The city’s done a great job restoring it. So many plants I don’t see elsewhere! Sadly didn’t see any bald eagles today, though they’re along this stretch of river often.

Pretty sure this isn't experimental reggae indie pop band Magical Beautiful, but it could be?? They're from Chicago. It's allegedly from 2007 and I used to go to shows in Chicago all the time and people would just hand you demo CDs as you were walking out. But who knows? I have no memory of this.

Hit bookstore 2, forgot to take a picture, but I did only buy one book! Stopping for breakfast despite it almost being noon because I spotted cinnamon rolls.

Got talked into a cinnamon roll with cookie dough on top and chocolate chips. It’s fine but no cinnabon.
