nobody talks about just how much of Faust (1926) is spent on Faust and Mephisto doing Pepe Le Pew antics

i am largely positive on Control Resonant so far, but you better believe i quit out of a sequence immediately once i saw it was just a combat challenge

ah but will it replicate the actual scariest part of working in a library, when patrons just shove books in some random spot and they get lost forever???

as always, the only reasonable "best of" lists are made by either a single person or by 2-3 people in close enough proximity to get physical if need be

I'm hearing that Minus Zero's R rating is due to Godzilla's graphic drug use

you can immediately tell an X-Files episode is going to be A Problem when the music score gets... let's say "culturally adventurous"

011

Steven Nguyen Scaife @midfalutin.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

every argument for a broader, more subjective range of review scores is way more persuasive as an argument against review scores in general you can dream bigger, folks!

new Resident Evil is good, but why do I keep seeing people say it adapts "the feeling of playing the games"? the protagonist here being kind of a bumbling moron is what makes the film distinct!

Steven Nguyen Scaife @midfalutin.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

but are the Threshold Kids back in Control Resonant

110

Steven Nguyen Scaife @midfalutin.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

anyone doing a "finally a good Resident Evil movie" article should hire me to write something instead tbh

I'm in here with a review of The Sinking City 2, which improves the combat yet scales back the puzzles that are way more interesting

alas, my stand-off with the price of those first two Famicom Detective Club games continues

the thing about Wolverine is that every video game character who does melee violence is kind of already Wolverine

Adults season 2 is pretty good but I am DEEPLY not invested in any of the romances

i simply do not trust folding screens and the tech industry has no credibility at this point to change my mind

020

Steven Nguyen Scaife @midfalutin.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

late to the party on the Ocarina of Time remake but it feels like a response to the diminishing returns of tech updates tbh if you can't lean on a mechanical overhaul and just gotta show the work of More Graphics then of course it's gonna look gaudy as shit!

120

Steven Nguyen Scaife @midfalutin.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

forgot that Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City from 2021 tries to do a "Jill sandwich" line lol

the only CGI zombie resurrection I support for a deceased actor is Looney Tunes Peter Lorre

that we are listed as a particularly trusted site yet frequently known (and in some cases blacklisted!) for being harsh suggests that whatever math is happening here doesn't even make sense lol

did you know that instead of keeping up with new releases you can just play Shadow Man

idk, this doesn't strike me as all that different from the extremely watered-down versions of, like, stealth and crafting and other mechanics that get sprinkled into other games for "variety" and "progression." at least it's honest, and the stripping-back is part of the point?

130

that's the problem with you kids today. you think you need Big Walk. back in my day we were happy with Small Walk, and maybe if we behaved ourselves when pappy was home from the factory, we'd get Medium Walk

Too many people in this space ultimately only care about their ability to play games. Their entire ideology is based on the premise that games are some right accorded to them. When that's your most core belief, nothing serious can be built on top of it.

maybe this is just what you get when you give into the sequelization urge, but why do Blade Runner follow-ups always attach society-altering stakes to the story?

bit mixed on Widow's Bay. excellent cast and often funny, but i just don't buy characters' behavior vs. the semi-grounded tone they're going for. the community does not feel authentic to me
