Pence did the right thing that day and he is pretty much hated by both sides. Mike Pence is a hero. He stood against the his party interest and for all American. Democrats and Republican, whether or not they agree with his politics, should be heaping praise on him. Thank you Mr. Pence.

Well. Thanks to Trump v U.S. he essentially can't be prosecuted for breaking the law, but certainly the courts can rule that the EO is unconstitutional or does not comply with the law.

Sort of. It carries a bit more weight. An EO, can not (legally) order an executive branch employee to break the law, or violate the constitution, but it can direct them to interpret the law, or the constitution in a specific way and the act on that interpretation.
