Thank you @maryhalvorson.bsky.social and Sylvie Courvoisier for coming to New Mexico and putting on an INCREDIBLE show last night. It was my daughter’s first music show and wow, what a doozy. She’ll never forget this one. One of those shows I wish I had recorded start to finish.

I’m going to be in Chicago toward the end of August for a week. I need recs for venues where I can catch some cool music. @intlanthem.bsky.social I know y’all got the scoop. Tap me in! I’m down with any type of left field music but my fave to see live is creative improvised instrumental type.

My Fly or Die shirt prompted a couple conversations about jaimie branch today at the rock gym. Hopefully a couple new listeners to the fly or die universe. Thanks @intlanthem.bsky.social for making sure her legacy lives on! The shirt has been helping me educate the world every time I wear it.

My pepper plants do not look well but they gave up another harvest. Probably their last. We have not had a frost here yet. It’s rare to be this deep in November and not have a frost.
Mix of red and green chile peppers in a stainless steel pot A green chile pepper just beginning to transition to red, showing an orange streak down the side. It is hanging on a pepper plant with sickly looking yellow leaves, an indicator it will soon die. Before then, it is giving one last attempt at spreading its seeds for future generations of plants. However, unbeknownst to the plant, I will eat this seed pod. Its efforts at reproduction were futile.

Seeing all these semi trucks jamming up the road, burning a bunch of fuel makes me wonder if there’s a better way to transport cargo? Like maybe a single truck could pull a bunch of the cargo containers? And since there’s so many of them, maybe give them their own road.

Here’s how summer 2025 has gone in New Mexico. In Albuquerque, the Rio Grande is entirely dry in spots. In the Sandia Mtns, the east slope — the side that gets the most rain — has acres of dry, dead/ dying pine trees. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but this doesn’t seem good.

Wildfire smoke is decimating our otherwise immaculate air quality here in New Mexico. On the left is a typical view of the mountains from my home. On the right is the view from a few minutes ago. And it’s actually improved since this morning! This used to be rare, but it happens a lot now.
A clear view of a New Mexico mountain range showing excellent visibility from about 10 miles away, with rocky details and snow being visible. Swans - Birthing This may be the best Swans yet. There isn’t a single song that reaches the highs of, say, Apostate or Bring the Sun/ Toussaint L’Ouverture, but the entire album is so consistently exceptional in a way no other Swans is. There is no low point here.
