Challenges with hydrogen
A hydrogen economy comes with several challenges:
• The molecule size is small, making it easy to leak and e.g. embrittle steel
• The volumetric density is low, making storage and transport difficult
• Salt deposits necessary easy underground storage in caverns are not widely available
• Vehicular transport is costly, pipeline network is necessary
• Hydrogen is an indirect greenhouse gas with GWP100 of 11.6 ± 2.8
• The widespread usage of a new gas requires a coordinated scale-up of lumpy GW-scale
pipelines, storage, supply and demand

Speak to @watsonn.bsky.social about the Multiple-Supplier Model (MSM) ( also, in the UK P379 was on right on the button before it was canned )
Multiple-Supplier Model (MSM)
This study set out to understand whether consumers would be more likely to engage with local energy suppliers in a multiple-supplier model compared to the current single supplier model

Contrary to fears that MSMs would increase consumer disengagement, these findings suggest that MSMs are likely to be a promising avenue for driving the growth of local energy and opening up opportunities for innovation in the British energy market.

P379 ‘Multiple Suppliers through Meter Splitting’
Formal title: Enabling consumers to buy and sell electricity from/to multiple providers through Meter Splitting

This Modification will enable consumers to be supplied by multiple Suppliers through Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) Settlement Meters at the Boundary Point. P379 will allow multiple Suppliers to compete for the supply or export of electricity through a single Meter without needing to establish an agreement between all of the Suppliers involved for every instance.

It is important to consider these inescapable facts, and note various concerns raised by the ~48 000 IEEE Power & Energy Society Members from across the world.

Our electric power markets were not originally designed for variable renewables—but they could be adapted;
The grid can handle more renewable generation than previously thought;
Geographic and resource diversity provide additional reliability to the system;
Modern power electronics are creating new sources of essential reliability services.

#V2G is incredibly complex to manage using traditional centralised concepts and thinking. - Localised Grid-edge Intelligence and the co-design of Command, Control, and Communication is the key to servicing milions of EVs #V2B2G
https://www.cleantech.com/ev-charging-software-and-grid-services
Function: Bidirectionally chargeable batteries of electric and hybrid vehicles, which can not only draw energy from the grid but also feed it into it, become a building block of an intelligent energy system.

Advantages: V2G systems enable intelligent sector coupling - in this context, this is understood to mean the combination of the traditionally separate sectors of energy and mobility. In private households or on sites, V2G can be used to bridge a power outage or for intelligent control of power production and consumption.

2/3 @neso-energy.bsky.social needs to plan ahead and rule on the interconnection and interoperability of UK Inverters. - IEEE 1547 must be considered
The IEEE published the IEEE Standard 1547-202X for Interconnection and Interoperability of DERs and Associated Electric Power Systems Interfaces, which is a voluntary and  internationally applicable Standard that will transform how DERs interact with, and function on, the electric distribution system;
IEEE 1547-202X is technology neutral and specifies the performance and functional technical capability requirements universally needed to ensure technically sound interconnections, as well as, a number of necessary improvements for distribution and bulk power system reliability;
IEEE 1547-202X requires DERs to be capable of performing specific grid support functions related to voltage, frequency, communications, and controls to ensure that increasing levels of DERs are reliable at both the distribution and bulk power system levels, and can be visible to grid operators;
The grid support functions envisaged by IEEE 1547-202X will allow new energy and power markets to be devised and new business to be conducted, and will allow for the widest range of participants to engage in building out a continent-wide sustainable energy infrastructure.

Hey @neso-energy.bsky.social, here's a thought ? Inverters will make or break the transition, so IEEE 1547 must be considered 😀 1/3
National Regulators and/or DSOs have statutory responsibility for regulating Distributed Energy Resources (“DER”) and/or Prosumers that provide energy services;
National Regulators and/or DSOs have a statutory obligation to ensure that those they regulate provide safe and reliable service at just and reasonable rates;
Many DNOs/DSOs are experiencing the installation and interconnection of Distributed Energy Resources as sources of electric power that are connected to, operate in parallel with, and are capable of exporting power to local distribution systems, including, but not limited to, distributed solar photovoltaic generation and distributed energy storage;
Many DNOs/DSOs, Local Councils, and their Prosumers recognize that DER, if interconnected and operated in a safe and reliable manner with uniform standards across multiple jurisdictions, can offer economic, reliability, resilience, and environmental benefits to consumers, communities and utilities;
DNOs/DSOs, Local Councils, and their Prosumers benefit from timely adoption of rigorous, clear, up-to-date standards for safe and reliable interconnection, integration and parallel operation of DERs;

Need to mention IEEE 1547 ? IEEE Standard for Interconnection and Interoperability of Distributed Energy Resources with Associated Electric Power Systems Interfaces
The technical specifications for, and testing of, the interconnection and interoperability between utility electric power systems (EPSs) and distributed energy resources (DERs) are the focus of this standard. It provides requirements relevant to the performance, operation, testing, safety considerations, and maintenance of the interconnection. It also includes general requirements, response to abnormal conditions, power quality, islanding, and test specifications and requirements for design, production, installation evaluation, commissioning, and periodic tests. The stated requirements are universally needed for interconnection of DER, including synchronous machines, induction machines, or power inverters/converters and will be sufficient for most installations. The criteria and requirements are applicable to all DER technologies interconnected to EPSs at typical primary and/or secondary distribution voltages. Installation of DER on radial primary and secondary distribution systems is the main emphasis of this document, although installation of DERs on primary and secondary network distribution systems is considered. This standard is written considering that the DER is a 60 Hz source.

Definitely worth downloading and a careful review
The matrices show that:

Whilst most flexibility services can be met to some degree at all network levels, there are some exceptions, such as uninterruptable power supplies, whole system restoration, self-consumption and seasonal storage, which can only be met at specific network levels.
Very few technologies can provide UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and seasonal storage because these services require very specific technological requirements.
Batteries are versatile and capable for a range of services across the different network levels. However, although they are capable, this work does not measure whether they are the most suitable technology for a given application (e.g. there has been no comparison between technologies of a given compatibility score).
Different technologies excel in different flexibility services and at different network levels. This highlights the need for a diverse portfolio of different technologies to meet all flexibility requirements.
Behind-the-meter – Small (equivalent to a domestic scale behind-the-meter connection) has the largest number of incompatibilities, this is mainly due to several of the technologies having incompatible sizes and power ratings at this network level.

Practical Statistics for Data Scientists
Statistical methods are a key part of of data science, yet very few data scientists have any formal statistics training. Courses and books on basic statistics rarely cover the topic from a data science perspective. This practical guide explains how to apply various statistical methods to data science, tells you how to avoid their misuse, and gives you advice on what's important and what's not.

Many data science resources incorporate statistical methods but lack a deeper statistical perspective. If you’re familiar with the R programming language, and have some exposure to statistics, this quick reference bridges the gap in an accessible, readable format.
