I’m leading Boston By Foot’s “Road to Revolution” tour tomorrow. It starts at historic King’s Chapel. The church learned about the people who attended services there with their enslavers and commissioned a memorial to them. “Unbound” by Harmonia Rosales is a most beautiful and fitting work.

Today’s annual tour for Independence Day, Footloose on the Freedom Trail, is always joyful for me. Yup, it was a scorcha - wicked hot! The crowds around Faneuil Hall were kinda bonkers, too. But as we approached the new Bill Russell Bridge, a hearty breeze picked up and Old Ironsides appeared.
Photo of Boston Harbor and the ship USS Constitution returning to the Charlestown Navy Yard. Ship had three masts but no sails.

This was the best thing today (until I started watching Cape Verde battling Argentina in the field, that is). Delightful, creative, inspiring. Can’t wait to talk about the Revolution tomorrow on Footloose on the Freedom Trail! bostonbyfoot.org/tours/footlo...

Did you learn about Anthony Burns in school? No? You’re not alone. Boston By Foot has introduced me to history not in my public school education. On May 26, learn about the 1854 rendition (return to enslavement) of Anthony Burns, a freedom-seeker arrested in Boston by federal marshals.

A lifelong friend documented me learning how to make ricotta gnocchi from her mom. Very simple ingredients and process, but it’s a good thing she helped me with shaping/rolling the dumplings because it would have taken me hours! Fun and delicious!

Went to see this exhibit on February 20 - the best thing I’ve done/seen all winter so far. I walk by the spot where this unbelievably talented artist had her Boston studio nearly every time I am downtown. The exhibit is beautifully curated and tells a life story along with showing the works.

I always feel lucky looking back. We sort of camped out at home with no heat or electricity and it felt like an adventure. And the neighbors helped each other out getting groceries via sled…our neighborhood was a peninsula so it was cut off for a while by flooding.

Funny!! My dad went to work in downtown Boston that morning…he was lucky to be able to get back home later on (Red Line and bus). There were already storms in January that closed school so my mom was also unthrilled with 4 kids home for weeks on end.

Where were you during the Blizzard of 78? I was at home in Quincy’s Houghs Neck neighborhood watching our basement fill up with floodwater. I was 12. It was an epic storm with epic sledding and snow forts afterwards. I think school was closed for weeks.

The spoiler’s in the title, but just in case you have never read/watched Little Women…don’t read any further! Everyone knows that a central drama of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel is that Beth dies. This book asks, “but what if it was foul play?” I loved this bold contemporary take - read it!

Happy birthday to my #shero Mary Kenney O’Sullivan! Born on this date in 1864 in Hannibal, Missouri, she fought for women’s rights in the workplace, a woman’s right to vote, and for safer conditions for all workers. She is memorialized in Hear Us, a multimedia installation in the MA State House.
Michele is standing next to a bronze bust of Mary Kenney O’ Sullivan. The frame is green marble with her name below and a quote above reading “I refused to do a man’s job without a man’s pay.”

A Mad King has usurped the power of Congress—which represents the American people. That is, he has seized power that belongs to you and me collectively. He has declared war without consultation with or approval from Congress. And with no imminent threat. This is a profound betrayal of the republic.

I have so many thoughts about this. Excited that architects and designers are thinking about the design implications for a basic human function. And wondering why it takes our society so long to figure it out!

On what turned out to be a gorgeous fall day, I gave this tour for the 3rd and last time this year. Most of the people on the tour were fellow Boston By Foot guides and they burst into applause at the end. As we head into winter, accolades from other guides buoyed my spirits like nothing else could.
