Rising plant extinction rates on European mountain summits
Climate change increases plant species richness in alpine ecosystems. However, to what extent this diversity enrichment masks extinction dynamics of resident species remains elusive. In this study, we...

🍀🌵🌿 Now in the latest #NatComms volume: Across >3,100 plant species on 5 continents, we show the growth–longevity trade-off extends far beyond trees. Warmer climates may favor faster growth and shorter lifespans—with implications for resilience & carbon storage. 🌐 🌍🌡️ #Ecology #ClimateChange

Slow growth as a strategy for plant longevity - Nature Communications
Plant longevity shapes ecosystem functioning and carbon storage, but evidence for its relationship with growth beyond trees has been limited. The authors show that slow growth consistently predicts gr...

Invasive alien plants #IAS – or when North America meets Southern Africa on a Swiss motorway … 🌍🌐🌿 Our 2nd 2026 road survey captured 📸 non-native #Cuscuta #campestris (NAm) parasitizing invasive Senecio inaequidens (SA)! Following 2019 & 2021 ⬇️, #AI mapping will monitor both along 🇨🇭 national roads.

🔥🥵 This weekend we finished mowing semi-dry grasslands near Freiburg, Germany — work we’ve done every year since the late 1980s. Back then, many sites faced scrub encroachment. Today, conservation management & protected-area status have improved conditions. 📈 #Conservation #Grasslands #Biodiversity
due to this year’s severe drought, there was much less biomass to removeone of the grasslands earlier this year in MayLate Spider Orchid (Ophrys holosericea) is one of 12 orchid species found on our managed grasslandsSlender Broomrape (Orobanche gracilis) is a very rare plant species in Southwest Germany (Baden-Württemberg). For decades, these managed grasslands were the only known site.

A few days ago, we completed the first 2026 camera survey, building on our 2021 baseline, to track distribution dynamics of native and non-native plant species along Swiss national roads using AI. Stay tuned! #Biodiversity #Monitoring #InvasiveSpecies #AI GPS tracks from first 2026 camera survey👇

After a great time at #TIBS2026 in Aarhus - where I gave a talk on our genetically-informed dynamic SDM and after many exciting discussions - today was the perfect day to visit #ARoS with colleagues from Amsterdam.

How does the eastern distribution limit of #plants in the European #Alps look like? The #Schneeberg 🏔️ (2076 m) in #Austria near #Vienna is a great place to find out! The often isolated occurrences must have been better connected to the other populations in the past. #biogeography #flowers #hiking
