That's insane. It was a single incident, in which he literally spoke with the victim and they both came to understand that it was classified as assault. Based on Jacob's statement, the facts that he shared, and the relative leniency of the punishment, I believe he is remorseful.

I’m excusing it. Severe mental illness, trauma, sexual abuse. She was failed every step of the way. Now 30 years later, remorseful, treated medically, and understanding of her actions, she gives back to her prison community and tries to help others. Cruel and unusual, at a minimum.

Yeah. I agree. While I believe it to be theoretically possible for AI and robotics to advance civilization to the point of near utopia-like automation, enabling people to pursue their passions and create art, or run marathons, or see the world... I don't think us as humans will ever achieve it.
