If that's the case, a screensaver (even just "Blank" which turns the screen fully black) keeps the pixels from burning in without triggering the DisplayPort disconnect. The panel stays powered but nothing is being displayed — negligible wear and no window shuffling.

If it's something else you're concerned about, what's the real reason? I can tailor the suggestion.
