Together we can help move our species to the next progressive stage of no Purpose and finally achieve utopia.

We must unite as students, nay, as human beings, against Purpose and the pain and suffering that thrives in its wake. Wherever Purpose rears its ugly head, we must be there to confront and defeat this wily enemy.

We disagree in the precept of Purpose as a guide for how we must conduct ourselves as a species, but rather it is this false guide that provides much of what we find in contempt of our species.

We the Students United to Defeat the Purpose put forth our ideals as follows for all the world to see. We find much of what plagues the world is the result of Purpose, a quality that many erroneously find innate and inherent in the world.

Wealth doesn’t ‘wick its way up’ or trickle down. Markets aren’t zero-sum games. Growth happens when people freely trade the value they create. A miracle of the 21st century is that billions of people previously cut off from global markets now have access to participate.

When governments prop up monopolies or distort competition, innovation and consumer choice suffer. Markets generally function best when consumers, not governments or corporations shielded by policy, decide the winners.

Michael Hussey @michaelhussey.bsky.social · 30/11/2024
Planned obsolescence isn’t a failure of the market; it’s often a symptom of government intervention creating monopolies. In a true free market, competition ensures businesses meet consumer demands—whether for durability or affordability.

Michael Hussey @michaelhussey.bsky.social · 30/11/2024
Consumption signals demand, but it doesn’t drive the economy alone. Production precedes consumption—goods must first be created before they can be sold. Markets are about trade, not just taking; our ability to consume depends on our ability to supply.

“Hoarded” wealth isn’t idle—it’s saved or invested, whether domestically or abroad, driving production somewhere. Adam Smith’s insights apply globally: investment grows capital, creating goods, jobs, and good jobs. It’s not about 100% reinvestment in one place but how capital builds productivity.

Spending $100 on fireworks doesn’t create long-term value—it’s gone in an instant. Similarly, consumption redistributes wealth temporarily, but savings and investment build the productive capacity that drives lasting economic growth. In other words - supply creates demand, not the other way around.
100
Michael Hussey @michaelhussey.bsky.social · 30/11/2024
Consumption redistributes wealth; it doesn’t create it. The $100 circulates but doesn’t expand the factory or build new ones. Growth comes from investment in tools, innovation, and production—powered by savings—not just spending.

I grew up in Maine selling Christmas trees. Unless you are going to cut one yourself? All the pre-cut trees have been down for a week or more already. It won’t matter if you buy it today or two weeks from now. Enjoy the tree, keep the water full, and prepare for dead needles regardless.

Wealth doesn’t ‘trickle down’; it circulates through investments that build long-term prosperity. Giving $100 to a poor man circulates quickly, but investment in tools, factories, and technology creates the supply and jobs that sustain demand.

The success of the U.S. economy from 1940 to 1981 wasn’t due to consumption-led growth but to capital investment and innovation. Post-WWII, savings financed industrial expansion, and production surged.

Calling it ‘the Adam Smith theory’ oversimplifies economics. Smith emphasized both consumption and production, but long-term growth depends on capital accumulation and investment, not just spending. Wealth isn’t hoarded—it’s reinvested into businesses, innovation, and job creation.

Michael Hussey @michaelhussey.bsky.social · 29/11/2024
But you can’t generate wealth from savings unless those funds are being put towards productive use somewhere else. Banks are not parking dollars under the mattress and creating wealth out of thin air.

Michael Hussey @michaelhussey.bsky.social · 29/11/2024
Economic growth comes from producing goods/services—not just consuming them. Our ability to consume depends on our ability to supply. Savings fund investments that create businesses, jobs, and innovation. Without investment in production, there’s no sustainable growth—just short-term spending.
000
Michael Hussey @michaelhussey.bsky.social · 29/11/2024
Saved money fuels business expansion. When we save or invest, banks lend those funds to businesses for hiring, innovation, and productivity. Long-term growth needs both consumption and investment to build a stable economy.

Spending $100 now boosts short-term demand. But once spent, the cycle ends unless businesses invest to grow. Consumption alone can’t sustain long-term economic growth. You need to create supply first, and demand follows.

Michael Hussey @michaelhussey.bsky.social · 29/11/2024
The person who saves it, of course. Savings drive economic growth by funding investments that create jobs & boost productivity. The saver channels $100 into banks or markets, enabling loans to businesses for expansion. Consumption creates temporary demand, but investment builds the future economy.

This also mirrors Enver Hoxha’s strategy in Albania. Hoxha eliminated intellectuals and surrounded himself with dullards and yes-men, ensuring his unchecked rule by destroying integrity and expertise in governance. Trump would have loved the guy.
