Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 11hHis statement regarding his Epstein relationship, like so many others, really was utterly empty. If he'd known of Epstein's behaviour he'd hace never interacting. Really? not maybe call the police? 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 20hYeah we hit a perfect storm where technology reached a point where widespread and unregulated distribution of misinformation was easy and cheap but at a time where the impact of many diseases were not a first hand thing for many. Normalisation of Deviance very much at play. 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 21hThe problem is that there will be a psychological hump to overcome. Hard enough to educate someone from an incorrect understanding to a correct one but that journey cannot avoid the understanding of what being incorrect meant in terms of stupidity, risk. Human brain will try to protect against that. 100
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 06/10/2026That was a Dirk Gently novel. The monkey went rogue snd started believing totally random things.....making your analogy even more apt. To be fair though a lot of fantasy footbsll leagues offer monetary prizes so can see a justification. 020
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It's an uncomfortable truth that Hitler saw the UK as an ally. Offering to protect the Empire if UK supported German led Europe. After Poland invastion and pact witn Russia he again appealed to UK for peace. And in 1940 again appealed to UK to stop. Then lost the tattie and went all in. 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I work with and in field of AI. With the amount of investment flying around $2M dollars would not shift any opinions, it would barely register as collateral damage. Think bigger, why not just steal Milan, like all of it, everything and become the leader of the world's first haberdashery city state. 060
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 02/10/2026With that beleif companies must also understand there is either a shift in how models are trained or they accept tech now is good enough for years In 10 years where is the cut off? Imagine writing code now with security practices a decade old. Imagine relying on 10yr old tech you don't understand. 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 29/09/2026This! AI can easily help you go very fast in completely the wrong direction. I'm trying to introduce team mob sessions at my new work to try tackle this. Lots of tasks need done but whole team focuses on the problem, discuss it, try things out together. 4-5 solutions can be tried. Everyone involved 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Simple fact is i can now produce so much more and there are different kinds of productivity gains. The mundane tasks of creating PRs, updating Jira or Linear, writing ADRs. Gone. But then there's the actual code, I spend a lot of time discussing, reviewing and tweaking but not always writing code. 110
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 29/09/2026To be honest the whole situation, the importance and status of sports within what i'd call University, is totally alien to me. But given that being the norm in the US it does seem lots of people making money off the backs of unpaid students. Also would UoT not also be guilty of giving a gift? 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I've been active in the UK punk scene for over 25 years, it's still an inclusive community but does attract a small amount of folk who are into the music for different reasons and would be less inviting of say a band with a black female drummer or an Asian front man. We're always fighting propaganda 030
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Indeed. The UK's music and subculture history is in a way a sad story. Windrush in 50s/ 60s brought different cultures and ideas. So many embraced it but 70s and 80s ruined it with far right adopting the skinhead uniform and "recruiting" from struggling working class communities, blaming immigration 141
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Shout out for the FS-6. Simple bit of kit but incredibly reliable and sturdy. Toured with the same one for years, not a single fault despite the treatment it often received on stage. 110
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I have to be honest, I've only ever played the first 2 GTAs...... 011
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 24/09/2026The real problem is one of scale. A well guided agent can produce well crafted code very quickly. A yolo guided agent can do real damage. We can't manually check everything so need to double down on our automated QA, which doesn't just mean testing. It's nothing new just a scaling problem. 000
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Not really, an MCP server is much more than just an LLM friendly wrapper for an API. The biggest difference being context. The agent loop can have a "conversation" with an MCP server. 100
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Civilisation. I largely play FPS shooters now as easier to fit in between everything else, but Civ 1 and 2 had me doing all nighters in shifts with a friend. 011
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I should clarify metrics don't just have to be raw code metrics like performance or used resources. Can also be metrics around maintainability, scaling and nowadays token efficiency when a model looks at the code. 110
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 15/09/2026If devs are religious about solutions you are in a no win situation. But in every other case metrics should be the decider. Both would beed to justify why they think their metrics would be better, how they can be measured and maybe actually ask for a POC showing this. 110
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Yeah was just thinking if you bought Led Zeppelin IV for just Stairway, you got 7 pretty decent "B-sides" 140
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I'm the first to ask folk to shut up when the come with the "I don't like [insert band]" but indulge my hypocrisy when I say i'm not a fan of The Stones at all but Wild Horses and Gimmie Shelter are absolute masterpieces, very much in the "yes, just one more listen" category. 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 14/09/2026There is no way the trains in the US are worse the worst UK operator Cross Country. Although mainland Europe has some excellent transit options. Getting around Amsterdam and to and around Brussels this summer was so simple. US has some excellent customer service though (symptom of tipping culture?) 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 14/09/2026It's the milk that is cooled straight after milking, cheese is kept cool for shelf life. Always better at room temperature. 000
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 14/09/2026To be fair Europe has very strict rules around food production using unpasteurised milk. It's unpasteurised but not untreated, it's cooled. There's just as much chance of contamination during production using pasteurised milk. Contamination does happen but alerts are quick due to batch testing. 100
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Privateer 2 was a masterpiece. The FMV sequences were of a very high standard. 041
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Technically this could be achieved if you invented a machine that placed earth in a massive gravitational distortion so as to alter spacetime, you'd need to be isolated from the field so your 8 hours sleep would be 5 earth minutes. I am fully aware this is of no real help at all. 030
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Depends on whether this interaction was in a public toilet or not. 000

Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 15/07/2026Yeah whole cast nailed it. It is a perfect film from writing, acting to cinematography. All perfect. 010
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 15/07/2026Stunning film. Seen it so many times and it never fails to entertain. I've always wondered if Jack Klugman took inspiration from Lee J Cobb's performance when doing Quincy 120

Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Technically, in terms of control, passing, movement, energy, we are way off it. Totally naive tactically. Players and coaches need to prepare better for tournament football. Every game should be win or bust. 100
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 21/06/2026It sounds like hyperbole but i genuinely feel there has been a slow decline, globally, in society. There have been many advances but I feel these are just on the surface. There is an undercurrent of negativity that is holding genuine advancement back. Entertainment is just holding a mirror to this 000

Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 19/06/2026That'll be one kind of response but equally as niave will be the response of "meh", not recognising the significance. I know it sounds condescending but so many people have little understanding of economics either on a state level or personal level. Simply not equiped to understand, but have a vote. 050

Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 15/06/2026Another scenario is that, certainly with developers, if too many keep being laid off with the message that more can be done with less, some small groups of devs might start doing more with less but also with less baggage. Tech companies may get competition from those they let go. 020
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 09/06/2026This....huge difference between reading and understanding. 000
Mike Lindsay @michaelgain.bsky.social · 02/06/2026That assumes every day is suitable for a launch, which it won't be and no amount of money and effort can change that. But say it is, each day will still not be suitable for each of the 27 satellites. We will need frequent launches for low orbit industry, but we're not ready, not even in 5 years. 020
