Another wonderful example of why we should all regard the Grim Reaper ambivalently at the worst, one day he will come for tech bros too no matter how hard they try to live forever.

I explore frozen time, linear time, cyclical time and spiraling time. I introduce the idea of agonistic monstrosity: the monster is an external enemy, and defeating it reinforces the existing order. & Constructive monstrosity where the monster destabilises the subject and forces transformation.

I argue that the monstrous Green Knight destabilises the symbolic structures through which Gawain understands himself—and that contemporary artists use horror and iconoclasm to make that destabilisation physically and psychologically perceptible.

Ha, well I'm sure its a lucrative faith, all those interviews and funding etc. What he's talking to has less substance than a dream cipher or an imaginary friend since they both lend a little of the Other within. The AI kings have gamified the world, people are speaking to NPCs with a search engine

in that chase for contact the human is being rewritten within, I think, since our neural architecture is partly formed and maintained through communication with others, with all the extra ambivalences, so a man doing this is not just wasting time, or neglecting the species hes dulling his own brain

Just fleeting thoughts, in the Scarface example the betrayal of the cultural artefact is more clear because the guy who thinks Tony is cool is really in conflict with the writer and director with AI its more a betrayal of humanity as such, or something

Michael Eden @michaeledenart.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
Yes but they sort of know that at the same time so it becomes a sort of masturbatory act, a betrayal of the signified which in this case would be the human-seeming interface that itself points towards an actual human of which I think there are still quite a few of (lols)

I shall call this 'signifier-thrall' a state in which a subject is captured by a signifier's affective surplus over its signified — pursuing the feeling the signifier delivers while refusing, via disavowal, a reachable or once-reachable real referent that the signifier was pointing toward.

I thought the news presenter really chickened out today when he said ‘a far right party has been elected in Germany for the first time since; World War Two’ I had time to say ‘go on say it’ but they couldn’t utter the N-word.

Titane (2021) is a great example of how art/film can confound theory, it’s an excellent film but progressive it ain’t! The idea that Alexia is a queer or feminist icon involves an incredible refusal of what it’s aesthetics actually do, just ask me (😂): ualresearchonline.arts.ac.uk/id/eprint/23...

It’s not the worst thing he’s done on the micro or macro level; but strangely such a tacky, vile event is haunting. Bad taste with an infectious moral dimension, how many have had a strong enough vaccine? The PM was on This Morning talking about it, something has ended/beginning.

I will for sure, the premise is that there is a mode of monstrosity which acts as an agent of the evacuated present, which is counter-temporal in form and in actions, and politically regressive (appearing at points of social disorientation to reinstate a valorised past via heroic authority): 🤔

I think this would be so much simpler for UAL, it clarifies for students what inappropriate use is -any use- instead of the very vague brief by brief rules of engagement which seems mad to me. If this was rule some people would cheat others wouldn’t and those that did, some would get caught,
