I am bad with life updates! But we are now out here at Princeton Theological Seminary doing the MDiv (wouldn't have predicted this 9+ years ago at Evangel lol) and settling into the rhythm of class tomorrow!

Me when I walked around with a Vampire Weekend hat designed to look like a NY Mets logo during their playoffs and being chatted up and comforted by NYC strangers (including the unhoused while running a food program) As a STL Cardinals fan, I couldn't break their hearts and say it's a rock band

Coming back from the Board of Ordained Ministry meeting as the only one the deacon & not elder track. The words resonated a lot more after the past two weeks why a call to be a UMC deacon and not elder: The call to Word, Service, Justice, & Compassion as my gut reaction to the past two weeks

My heart is so happy! Good time with a dear friend I haven't seen in ages and many shenanigans, laughs, dimension 20 twists, anti-crypto jokes, love and appreciation of NYC, and greatest hits of a TTRPG community that has meant so much to my identity and community💜🎲 A good night to log off a bit

A little bit of queer fantasy escapism from the darkest timeline Still can't believe that I'm watching a D&D live actual play at Madison Square Garden when I grew up and D&D/TTRPGs had me relegated to the nerd/outsiders tables as a teen

Same! I've been trying to volunteer as a Kids/Teens DM but the after-school programs start before I'm off work and are 5E centric This was my rough draft on the left. I gave the party a Hilda Vaesen/Spiritua to control Don't worry we all run one shots for each other, just not Cyberpunk

When your players insist on no fewer than 3 occasions that the Vaesen is indeed the deceased innkeeper reincarnated into a horse no matter how much you deny it, in and out of game

Michael Tofte @michael-toftea.bsky.social · 12/12/2024

Vaesen: A Winter's Tale at Hex & Co True comedy of errors & horrors. Haven't belly laughed at such a catastrophic failure in a horror game yet You don't need to think of red herrings as a dm. Your players will just insist that the monster is a reincarnated horse, no matter what

Can't find an accurate TTRPG shelfie from the beginning of the year (as I didn't have or played Vaesen or Blades in the Dark until March) but also I have spill over from End of the Years' as well into my board game, folklore, and therapy sections

Michael Tofte @michael-toftea.bsky.social · 10/12/2024

Very much in love with Vaesen (which is partially cheating for being real) but I love how the folklore bleeds into the gameplay and the setting and encourages player-storyteller immersion into the setting and requiring you to think in terms of setting-mystery-character interplay and in world logic

I believe this is the final #ttrpg shelfie update of 2024 now that my friend from Pax and my Free League order both came by this week And yes I'll likely be ranting and raving about my favorite game on this shelf (probably hard to guess) later as I make a 19th century Yule Cat oneshot for Juletid

He's the rep for the district that I went to college in and I heard wild stories from a friend who briefly interned with him But crucially and to no surprise, this man being considered for the IRS has careers in auctioneering and poker/gambling NOT business/accounting/tax policy/admin

I have two Viggo Mortensen actually did that scenes; they're in the same movie: In The American President, despite being rated PG-13 there are three f words (max should be 1) And there's no way that one can be stuck in Dupont Circle going to the White House from Capitol Hill without being lost

What is a more Michael night before Advent than setting out his Advent votives and some of his Christmas decor but also procrastinating hw with Alan Wake 2 (Yes, it's very good!!! And I'm shocked that as a horror wimp, I've been making progress... plenty of hugging a plushie and grapefruit candles)

Michael's Solo Thanksgiving is literally a low effort replica of his Vaesen characters' dinners... so I should be anticipating a haunting in this LARP that takes place in a building Edgar Allen Poe used to visit...

Introduce yourself with your top 5 #TTRPG picks I love #freeleague #frialigan 1. Vaesen 2. Dragonbane 3. Blades In The Dark 4. D&D 5E (2014 as haven't played 2024) 5. Shadowdark Honorable Mentions to The One Ring (only 1 session but loved it) and Marvel Heroic RPG (which I played-by-post in HS)

Another satisfying Dragonbane Romp. Had a player probably for the first time ever wished he rolled a 1 on disadvantage/bane rather than a 20

I missed this #WyrdWednesday which was so incredibly on brand! My humble contribution is simply to recommend Johan Egerkrans's Vaesen (and the Free League RPG) for the spookiest of Vaesen folklore stories & mysteries. There's always a spot available at my table in NYC!
