Also yes, I know I'm an award-nominated designer. These were done in 5 days for fun, NOT stage or screen, and two other costumes were made but not pictured. It's healing to remember how to have fun even when there are imperfections. Starting to research next year already.

Figured if anyone got a kick out of it, @gailsimone.bsky.social might. My husband went as Catman to #Connecticon and mixed a few versions. Unlike him, I'm not serious so I went as Booster Gold, Space Cabbie, and Sexx Luthor--yeah, like Robot Chicken DC Special 2. Shameless or delirious from work?

Maybe if you got your head out of your ass and looked at the overwhelmingly high percentage of cismale authors who are published over any other demographic, you'd realized your work is getting passed because it sucks. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/a...

I haven't talked about Val Kilmer because it's very sad for me. "Batman Forever" changed my life. I had it on VHS. I watched it all the time. It... honestly explains a LOT about me in general. Some people were very cruel to him when he was grappling with health. So cruel. This is sad.

I'm a huge mental health advocate, I love my husband and my cats, I'm a DC Comics nerd, especially anything Batfam and Green Lantern. "Justice League: War" is still my favorite animated DC movie because "Who the hell is Bruce Wayne?" and I like it when Superman's a jerk.

Mia Siegert @miasiegert.bsky.social · 22/03/2025

I'm pretty socially awkward and usually non-confrontational at all, but I am a petty Scorpio from NJ so I have a breaking point. People who defend piracy and laugh about it to my face when I explain real world repercussions go on that shit list immediately.

Mia Siegert @miasiegert.bsky.social · 22/03/2025

Hi new friends! You might have recently followed me because of my posts trying to educate about piracy and the royalties authors get from the library. Please introduce yourself! I'm a bigender, queer, ND writer and costume designer. I'm responsible for JERKBAIT and SOMEBODY TOLD ME. I love cats.

Mia Siegert @miasiegert.bsky.social · 22/03/2025

Also the pirate who claimed they had no ID... you need a SSN for SNAP/EBT as well as tax returns. You can get a library card easily with those. But if you did have "food stamps," you absolutely can have a library card... Sorry, this is really upsetting because it's adding to the stigma.

000

Mia Siegert @miasiegert.bsky.social · 22/03/2025

I don't like the cosplaying poor from people defending piracy. It's easy to tell when the information is wildly incorrect, usually when people talk about food stamps since it's been SNAP for a long time with EBT cards. You... don't bring physical stamps from other states...

Finally found it. The average book thief makes between 60k and 99K USD. The average author makes around 10k. Most pirates are stealing from people worse off than themselves. But they cosplay as poor or use poor people as a shield to justify their class warfare. torrentfreak.com/wealthy-olde...

Most people say they have no clue that authors get paid royalties for library copies then tell everyone they know in an effort to stop piracy AND make sure we get paid. I don't like sharing what it's done to me personally but I do to help people understand real world consequences. But laughter?

072

Mia Siegert @miasiegert.bsky.social · 22/03/2025

I'm not very active on Bsky. I'm alarmed at how many people are supporting piracy right to authors' faces when we're sharing how it's affected us and we're providing ways to read our work for free while we get paid. The lack of empathy coupled with entitlement is astounding. Usually people assist.

Under the advice of some folk, I blocked that person who did the fanfic dig at me (which 1) I don't like because literally it's the biggest honor ever when an author receives fan-work, ever, and 2) I don't like because I take IP really seriously). I'm just... sad they chose war rather than library.

Probably--there are weird replies to mine and I'm under deadline with an injured right hand, three deadlines at once, and now figuring out legal stuff. Not sure how many ways I can explain the library can help with new ID and everything, and you don't need any of the stuff they claim.

000

Mia Siegert @miasiegert.bsky.social · 21/03/2025

I also wish that piracy didn't take away 4/5ths of my income and go after marginalized writers like myself.

000

Mia Siegert @miasiegert.bsky.social · 21/03/2025

All of your posts/replies with me disappeared, notifications with the one-sided ends of convos happened, and it said I was blocked. I don't care if you block me. I care that you're avoiding things, like how the library literally will help you get ID and you have more than enough to get a card.

I usually don't fight with people online-- --unless it comes to piracy where it affects me, my colleagues, my industry, where all of us are struggling to make ends meet, get food, and I'm called a scarecrow? So like... The Wiz or Jonathan Crane? I'd prefer The Wiz's Scarecrow.

I empathize. Dealt with a lot of addiction with family and friends. When I was 14, lost my first friend to a heroin OD. I try to own up to things and learn. If I knew my actions were really hurting someone, I wouldn't go off on "KNOOOWLEDGE" bullshit and then "SAILLLLING." I'd love to go sailing.

lol I got blocked. Honestly for the best. I normally don't get set off but the SAILING thing kicked me in the face. Plus I thought I was pretty nice letting them know the library can get them ID and they had more than enough documentation! You also need documentation to sail.
