The survey identified areas of technology interaction that people found difficult, challenging or joyful. We built a cognitive readiness platform and used these results to understand our customers better. Our focus is less on tools and more on human cognition and capabilities.

What still came through clearly, across almost every answer, was connection. When asked what brings people joy, the answers were about family and friends, not platforms or content. 7/

3/4 of respondents are concerned about technology's influence on them, but the fixes people describe are small and personal, things like turning off notifications or deleting one app. Concern about data privacy was sharper, and for some people it had turned into resignation rather than action. 6/

Most people have a process for figuring out what's true, usually checking multiple sources or sticking to outlets they already trust. But a meaningful minority told us they've basically given up trying. One person put it simply: "I don't know what is real. How do you know what is real anymore?" 5/

Almost everyone who answered the behavioural question (n=82) said they'd lost track of time, felt a strong emotion, or made an unexpected decision after using social media or AI. 70% told us they feel overloaded by information and technology, and the most common answer is simply to switch off. 4/

4. Privacy and Data Collection, where concerns are concrete and specific, centred on tangible harms like identity theft and third-party data sale. 5. Technology Influence, concern is widespread but countermeasures scarce and mostly individual habits. 3/

2. Digital and Information Overload, which is common and mostly met with retreat rather than durable coping systems. 3. Truth and Information Trust, where personal judgment does most of the work and a sizeable minority feel it has stopped working. 2/

For many years, people didn’t randomly film others in public—not because we didn’t have the technology, but because the social contract said you didn’t do that. That’s why Meta is going full court press on their PR and celebrity endorsements. They remember how people ran google glass outta town.

Fantastic work by @thorinklosowski.com at @eff.org looking at the state of fitness tracker privacy. Most wearable makers don't end-to-end encrypt your data, so police/feds (and hackers!) can get your health data — and almost none publish a transparency report, so we may never know if they do.

🎯 On leadership: Every leader is an AI leader. Jon's framework for what that requires: know enough to call out hype (the what), be clear on organisational purpose (the why), manage the change (the how), and understand the bigger picture on ethics, governance and trust. 7/

📊 On productivity: AI reliably improves personal productivity by 5 to 70% depending on the task. Organizational productivity gains are far less clear. The factors that determine enterprise-wide AI success are 80% cultural, structural and leadership related, not technological. 6/

🏗️ On building an Australian model: 80% of foundation models used in Australia come from the US or China. Jon has been making the case for Australian sovereign models for six years. The cutoff of models like Fable has made that conversation significantly more live. 4/

Highlights from the conversation: 🌐 On AI sovereignty: Sovereignty is not just about where data is stored. It spans the full stack from data centres and foundation models through to inference, applications and responsible AI values. Focusing only on data centres creates a false sense of security. 3/

For nearly a decade, the Pentagon was warned—by its own contractors, analysts, and intelligence agencies—that anyone with a credit card could buy a map of where American troops sleep, work, and store nuclear weapons. Now the bill has come due in a war zone. My latest at @wired.com

The Pentagon Knew Enemies Could Track Troops’ Phones for Years. Now They Are
The US military has long known that cheap fixes could stop location data from exposing its troops. It adopted almost none—and now says adversaries are using the data to target soldiers during a war.
