"Tutelary Power and Autocratic Legitimacy: Experimental Evidence from Kazakhstan’s Tutelage" with @mhigashi.bsky.social has been conditionally accepted at the JOP! We examine whether a de fact guardian boosts popular support for a de jure autocratic leader. shiraito.github.io/research/pag...

We will try notify participants within a week or so. Participants will be required to confirm later that month. Participants also will need to register for WPSA and make their own travel and lodging arrangements. (4/5)

To avoid any confusion, please note that we have an extension from WPSA. Applications to each are separate, and you should apply to the mini-conference separately even if you have already applied to WPSA. (3/5)

This mini-conference was initiated in 2018 by Andrew Little, Peter Lorentzen, and Anne Meng to bring together researchers working in this area across a range of methodologies and geographies. Last year, it was organized by Iza Ding, Dana El Kurd, Xiaojun Li, and Minh Trinh (2/5)

My new paper with Hidekuni Washida has been published by EPSR! It identifies two types of clientelism — relational and single-shot — by using the V-Party dataset and conducts exploratory analyses on the correlates of clientelism. Open access: www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
