Fading Suns: Translatio Sancti del 43 – Ti dage senere

#rollespil #ttrpg #DnD

D&D-vibing Caverns of Thracia: Path Magic

Night's Black Agents campaign is back - this time with (murder) boards. As the players decided to take the fight to the enemy they were given a lot of small notes with names of places, events, people from the last many sessions which they began organizing. #rollespil #ttrpg #nightsblackagents

Day 31 of #RPGaDAY: Edge. Reaching the edge of a flat world could be a fun twist, but the world being flat raises too many questions about the setting's cosmology, when characters begin investigating the flatness thus proving that the flat earth belief being one of the silliest conspiracy beliefs.

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Day 30 of #RPGaDAY: Pride. Most pride themselves at being poor die rollers. Most prefer the humility of being unfortunate when rolling dice, rather than suffering from the superbia of claiming to being fortunate die rollers. It is to ward off the evil eye of the cruel TPK spirits.

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
Day 29 of #RPGaDAY: Labour. Labourers are rarely characters in RPGs. It is all independent contractors: adventurers, investigators, troubleshooters, travellers. Alien RPG is one of the few games with blue collar characters in central roles in a cold uncaring universe with the corp as the villain

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
Day 28 of #RPGaDAY: Devotion. A fun experiment I had was that DnD clerics could pick up spells at any altar. It changed the interaction with sacred sites in the dungeon as the cleric benefitted from any of them, even their enemies'. I do like to challenge the implicit religion in DnDs rules.

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
Day 27 of #RPGaDAY: Hunger. I think many settled dungeons miss out on the fact that hunger is an issue and many hours are spent gathering, hunting, harvesting, transporting, storing, preparing, eating. It could shape most of the wandering monster entries. Renovation afterwards is also an issue

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
Day 26 of #RPGaDAY: Regret. Regret in dungeon crawl is difficult to do proper. We want players to interact with the dungeon and not regret touching the chest or opening the door. Choice should be obvious in order to create regret and also mean that some choices should deliver the opposite of regret

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
Day 25 of #RPGaDAY: Familiarity. A fascinating shift in a campaign is when you have played so much that players become familiar with the setting and begin to use it rather than explore it. In long campaigns I aim for setting-familiarity. When it happens the story changes. It is a strength of RPGs

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Day 24 of #RPGaDAY: Distance. Among my experiments with setting up the game table in different configurations I have never experimented with distance between players. What if one player sits 2m away from the rest, or the players are split into 2 groups sitting 4m from away? Something to explore

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 23/08/2026
Day 23 of #RPGaDAY: Fortune. There is a fortune to be won in the dungeon. Yet no dungeon crawl has been about the characters being wealthy, instead DMs are advised to alleviate the PCs of wealth than letting it be the next chapter in the campaign. A fun dilemma could be XP or a wealthy lifestyle

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
Day 22 of #RPGaDAY: Grit. If Grit had been used instead of constitution in the first D&D game would we have a focus on dungeoneering as being exhaustive in itself? Travelling through an inhospitable deep filled with dangers, traps, and no pleasant places to rest could in itself be a challenge.

Day 21 of #RPGaDAY: Charity Imagine a player with a point-buy system creating an externely wealthy character and in first session begins giving it all away to charity. Usually wealth in RPGs are for buying equipment to solve adventuring problems; now it is used to change the world and hack the game

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
Day 20 of #RPGaDAY: Promise. The lure of many RPGs is the promise of a certain experience. Gritty, cozy, fantastical, scary, heroic. How an RPG delivers on its promise or attempts to is often the thing I go hunting for when reading a new rulebook.

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Day 19 of #RPGaDAY: Desire. A dungeon's Desire Rating is determined by the amount of monsters, mysteries, magic and treasures that tempts the PCs to risk their lives. However, Desire is ratioed against Danger Rating. Too much danger, and the PCs solve the dungeon by not touching anything.

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
Day 18 of #RPGaDAY: Directness. The directness of the dungeon is the degree to which traps, mysteries, and wonders are clearly shown. Instead of being surprised by traps or searching for hidden doors, you are shown their presence and it becomes a matter of solving them, instead of finding them.
010
Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
Day 17 of #RPGaDAY: Intensity. One way to create intensity is to approximate action into real time action using Theater of Mind combined with how radio hosts and sport commentators create 'action' through narration: sport commentators on the radio does Theater of Mind for sports.
020
Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Day 16 of #RPGaDAY: Composure. RPGs require a certain composure as we sit at the table and invite adversity to our avatar: Violence, maiming, trauma, loss of sanity. Some can be undone with the flick of spell caster's wrist. At other times we play to lose and we keep it as part of the experience.
010
Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 15/08/2026
Day 15 of #RPGaDAY: Endurance. RPGs are slow media. Only operas seems akin to them in speed, and stamina is required to sit through hours upon hours of gaming. Physical endurance benefits the player allowing them to stay clearheaded. Workouts are essential (and will train your dice throwing skill).

Day 14 of #RPGaDAY: Regard. As we enter and leave the RPG dojo we greet the table and the dice. We show regard to the magic circle we are about to enter. The threshold to the game room must be respected. The session is a magical ritual summoning untold worlds. Telling stories is magical.

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
Day 13 of #RPGaDAY: Strain. Let's replace hit points with strain, and once Strain reaches 0, you have to exit the dungeon. Any strenuous activity incl spell casting incurs Strain, as does failed tests. How far into the dungeon can we venture before the strain becomes too much? Use for LitRPG RPGs

"I didn't have time to read through Necronomicon to learn this ritual to awaken ancient powers, so I had AI summarize the ritual and afterwards confirm that there no errors. I cannot see what could go wrong. Tonight I rule." - diary found in the ruins of the Internet #OccultAI #DeltaGreen #CoC

Day 12 of #RPGaDAY: Loss. Hit Points are lost all the time, but there is an unwillingness to lose equipment. Items once secured remains with the character forever. It seems like only equipment marked to be lost such as 'torches as consumables'. What if all must be retrieved at each Chapter's start?

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 11/08/2026
Day 11 of #RPGaDAY: Tact There is an art to rolling dice - or throwing them as it is in my native tongue - and it requires tact. One cannot go about throwing dice all at random. There is an elegance to it. Timing is essential. An opennes to let the die land visibly amongst us untouched.
020
Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 10/08/2026
Day 10 of #RPGaDay: Secret. A secret requires knowledge of its existence to be a secret. A 'secret' kept wholly secret is non-existent, not secret, and is indistinguishable from spontanously improvised reveals. The same applies to secret doors, spies and snipers.
010
Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
Day 9 of #RPGaDAY: Privilege. Perks, Feats, and Advantages as part of character generation are common though rarely are they social privileges yet they are very common in our societies. Imagine creating a fighter or wizard spending points on picking privileges. Worlds can be build in this way.
030
Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Day 8 of #RPGaDAY: Resolve. When we resolve a conflict we don't negotiate the outcome anymore. That was one of the interesting aspects of 00s Story Games. There is a little back-and-forth in PbtA games and when doing devil's bargains but the idea of negotiating and escalating seems left behind

Day 7 of #RPGaDAY: Mercy. Coup de Grace or killing a downed foe, bonus attacks on fleeing enemies, bonus for flanking a foe - but showing Mercy is an absent action. Imagine it being one of the many attack options: should I strike or show mercy? Adding the absent choices enrichens our games.

Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
Day 6 of #RPGaDAY: Reach. D&D has a fascinating often indirect reach from creating Mimics and Beholders to establishing mechanics used innummerable video games to creating the dungeon crawling genre to changing the meaning of words like lich and wight as well as turning the icosahedron into an icon
020
Morten Greis @mgreis.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
Day 5 of #RPGaDAY: Burden. A beast of burden spefically the mule was one a thing on the equipment list in basic D&D. It implies something about adventuring that you needed the capacity to carry goods home. How many mules are left outside dungeons waiting for their adventurers to lead them home?

Day 4 of #RPGaDAY: Charm. So this is how initiative should be handled: The most charming or charmed decides who should go first. After having acted they pass the initiative to the next. If there is a disagreement, roll opposed charm tests to determine who gets to decide whose turn it is to act
