Parsa Tadayon from @ninetlab.bsky.social published his first paper in Neuromodulation on Quantification of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Low-intensity Focused Ultrasound Energy Field Focality in the Cerebral Cortex - see doi.org/10.1016/j.ne... @ubcmedicine.bsky.social @sbmeubc.bsky.social
onceptual schematic of methods. a. Representation of an individualized head model with segmented anatomical structures, including skin (brown), cortical bone (yellow), cancellous bone (red), cerebrospinal fluid (blue), gray matter (gray), and white matter (white). These segmentations were used to generate subject-specific computational models for TMS and LIFU simulations. b. Cortical parcellation using the Destrieux atlas in FreeSurfer, highlighting the left MFGyr (middle) and left MFSulc (right), which were analyzed to quantify regional differences in energy deposition. c. Comparison of simulated energy fields for LIFU (left) and TMS (right). LIFU generates a highly focal acoustic field, whereas TMS induces a broader electric field distribution spanning multiple cortical areas. d. Thresholding approach for energy distribution analysis in both modalities. The boundary of the energy field is defined at 30%, 50%, and 70% of the peak value to quantify the extent and focality of stimulation.

Samantha Pang explored the use of peri-operative patient- and parent-reported experience and outcome measures to identify paediatric postsurgical recovery trajectories. See doi.org/10.1111/anae... @anaesjournal.bsky.social @ubcmedicine.bsky.social @part-bcch.bsky.social @bcchresearch.bsky.social
Trajectories of postoperative outcomes from growth mixture modelling, divided into three groups with patterns of good (dark green), intermediate (blue) and poor (dark red) outcomes: (a) average pain score (total n = 424; low, n = 159, 37.5%; medium, n = 112, 26.4%; high, n = 153, 36.1%); (b) worst pain score (total n = 424; low, n = 137, 32.3%; medium, n = 274, 64.6%; high, n = 13, 3.1%); (c) pain interference (total n = 258; low, n = 77, 29.8%; medium, n = 153, 59.3%; high, n = 28, 10.9%); (d) mobility (total n = 424; good, n = 191, 45.1%; intermediate, n = 174, 41.0%; poor, n = 59, 13.9%). For (a), (b) and (c), lower scores are better; for (d), higher scores are better. Pain scores were reported using a sliding scale that was converted to an 11-point (0–10) numeric score.
