Per this, I really don't have panic attacks, just more concentrated anxiety spells, which sounds right to me. It's still very much a physical thing that can be treated in the moment, but there's no sense of unreality or shock that it's happening.

Btw, if you have mental health issues and you don't talk/post about them, I highly recommend giving it a try. I'm not talking about going to therapy, I'm talking about sharing with the community at large. Let people see you - it really does help with the shame and isolation.

I want to let go. Not in a self-harm way, but in a 'stop holding it together and just let everything crash' way. Stop dealing with bills, appointments, social life, housework - all of it. Stop worrying about the future. Just stop coping altogether. And the way to do that is hospitalization.

The difference between Sarah and me is that Sarah will eventually escape Iceland. I might never emerge from the cycle of dentist -> endodontist -> endodontist -> dentist -> dentist. A work requirement for an income-tested assistance program is just so transparently violent. If you work 80 hours/month you likely will no longer qualify for Medicaid and you certainly won't get any benefits from your employer. Any medical care at all will bankrupt you. And then you die.

Most of the work I do - like helping out with childcare - is unpaid and undocumented. My past volunteer work was all self-driven and wouldn't have qualified. The new rules don't mean I have to do more, they mean I have to stop what I already do so I can do something less useful but more official.
