For many Swiss, it's hard to imagine another political system offering as much participation as direct democracy. Yet the Global State of Democracy 2026 ranks #Denmark 1st, #Switzerland 2nd and #Norway 3rd. Democracy isn't just about voting – it's also about how many people actually engage.

Using solar energy from your neighbourhood becomes a model in Switzerland. Great initiative.

Another land-based #salmon project in #Switzerland. #Norway is active here too, but shouldn't it aim to dominate this field? It has the salmon expertise, feed and capital. If land farming becomes competitive globally, why leave the field to future competitors – instead of leading the transition?

#Sweden shifting left in the elections fits the broader #Scandinavian picture. More surprising to me is that #Oslo, as #Norway’s main urban centre, is governed by the centre-right.

Apparently more and more millionaires are moving to Italy (instead of #Switzerland). What are the #Norwegians doing? www.watson.ch/wirtschaft/s...

Have you seen this Logo before? It‘s from the Swiss healthcare app Well. It somehow reminds me of something… 😂

One of many similarities between #Norway and #Switzerland. But this graphic shows only a small part of a big picture. Low-carbon electricity can also come from nuclear, as in Sweden and Switzerland. Norway, meanwhile, is an oil exporter. It's complicated, but low-carbon electricity is still good.

Windegga, above Chur in the Swiss Alps. It always reminds me of the Hardangervidda in Norway. As in some Norwegian landscapes, there’s also a wind farm proposal here. Difficult to make up my mind.

One thing I keep noticing when creating timeslides in cities: viewpoints that once had a clear view are now hidden behind trees. It happens surprisingly often as in Oslo yesterday. That’s exactly why we’re building Pictomap: to document change objectively. The conclusions are up to everyone else.

One underappreciated similarity between #Norway and #Switzerland: the gis-platforms #Kartverket and #swisstopo. Both grew continuously, rely on strong in-house expertise and became trusted, widely used national geoplatforms.

The book #Techkrisen argues that #Norway lacks a Silicon Valley partly because conservative capital and departing billionaires weaken the ecosystem. Don’t worry: where those billionaires go, #Swiss capital is just as conservative. Billionaires alone don’t create a Silicon Valley.

#Switzerland is following #Norway’s World Cup homecoming with videos and detailed information. I rarely see the reverse: Norwegian media following Swiss stories with the same curiosity. Have you? www.watson.ch/sport/fussba...

90'000 Fans feiern norwegische Nati – Haaland überrascht mit kuriosem Souvenir
Norwegens WM-Elf wird in Oslo frenetisch gefeiert. Beim Empfang im Königspalast tragen manche Spieler Flip-Flops. Und Erling Haaland bringt ein Souvenir mit.

#Norway and #Switzerland naturally compare themselves with their neighbours. But this can hide an interesting connection: the two countries have much in common, and possibly more potential for closer cooperation than we usually recognise. If this potential exists, who is actually exploring it?

Searching W for “Norwegen Schweiz” gives me football. Searching for “Norge Sveits” gives me tax exiles. It reflects an asymmetry I’ve noticed for years: Norway is culturally present in Switzerland. Is the opposite true?
