Even though my hands have been wrecked I still didn't learn the lesson. I've been trying to write, I've been trying to build, I've been trying to sculpt with my left hand. I really am incredibly stubborn and hard-headed. No wonder I need to constantly be put down. I'm the mole from whack-a-mole.

The big lesson the world is clearly trying to teach me is DON'T ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING! It's all well and good to dabble with something or do preliminary work, collect ideas and plan, but the moment there's any real threat that I might complete a project my health is suddenly in mortal danger.

I love that dromaeosaurids as we (the then new generation of paleoartists) imagined them in the early 2000s are now entering the public consciousness as vibrant realistic animals. And I really can't think of anyone more suited for designing their look than you.

Anybody know of an up to date tutorial for sculpting with Blender for people who have previously used stuff like Scultpris and Zbrush but don't know the quirks of Blender. Also if at all possible, something that's at least remotely ADHD friendly.

I used to low-key idolize such historical figures as da Vinci, Galilei and Darwin in my youth. Now I feel much more kinship with Tycho Brahe. He too had his nose destroyed in his twenties and wore a prosthesis he had to glue on, but he didn't let that stop him. Nor should I.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I was one of the three biggest contributors to the project in terms of art and new taxa. The "look" of our critters was largely defined by me, Brian and Dan, though there were many other artists involved over the years.

There were reasonably large hairy synapsids around in the Late Permian (based on coprolites) so I'm now comfortable with giving any cynodonts a pelt of fur. Maybe not always specialized whiskers, but that gets reasonable inside Probainognathia. Love this lil guy, btw.

I don't think they're the same or likely even closely related. Depersonalization seems to refer to feeling disconnected from your own body or your emotions or whatever part of yourself. It's very different from feeling like an intact being, but ousted from humanity.

I suppose it might fall under "alienation" but I feel like a person can become alienated from other people without losing the sense that they themselves are still human. It feels like something maybe related to identity and perhaps dissociation perhaps. I hope someone knows.

I want to know if there is a term or definition for the feeling that you're not human, in a vague hard to define I suppose social sense. And simultaneously you wish you could be one, but also know fully well that objectively - in the biological sense - you absolutely are 100% Homo sapiens.

It would be interesting to see a variation of a T. rex vs. Quetzalcoatlus scene where the Tyrannosaurus is protecting its young. A confrontation where neither animal is motivated to engage in open violence but tries to navigate the situation with minimal losses.

I often wonder how many of our mental "disorders" are the result of brains evolved to handle the stresses of a hunter-gatherer lifestyle in small tribal communities thrown into a world natural selection hasn't had an opportunity to develop specific and effective coping strategies for.

I see this as a sign that your mind tries to bend to avoid breaking under great pressure. To reserve strength for survival in extreme circumstances. Not an illness, as we tend to label any deviations form mental normalcy, but an unrefined attempt to buy time until things can get better again.

I don't know how much of it is tied to my personal circumstances, but dissociation, derealization and depersonalization can also enter the picture. Life feels unreal, like dream or a tv-show, you feel like an observer of your life, or even detached from your own body.

Through enduring various hardships I've learned that mental exhaustion erodes your ability to enjoy things that used to excite you before, but it can also make you ignore or become numb to threats to your health and wellbeing you used to care deeply about. It is an insidious process of self-loss.

I am so tired. Spent out. Burned from both ends. Out of spoons. But the tide of the bad and the awful is never-ending. Little by little all good things are being broken or bent out of shape. The straws continue to pile on top of the camel's broken body. Oh, to have a moment of peace and rest.
