I also gotta show them Dali's Swans Reflecting Elephants (1937) - hey fellow kids, do we love a metamorphic illusion or what?
3 swans in front of bleak, leafless trees are reflected in the lake so that the swans' heads become the elephants' heads and the trees become the bodies of the elephants.
In the background of the painting is a Catalonian landscape depicted in fiery fall colors, the brushwork creating swirls in the cliffs that surround the lake, to contrast with the stillness of the water.

I liked having a shaved head a lot, sometimes felt like a bit of a bother, but nice in the summer. I don’t generally like most hats, but sometimes wear satin lined hats - they’re sort of slouchy, and they are designed for sleeping in so they’re kind of the lighter side, but not a bonnet style.

Imagine living in a present where you can use a hat to charge your headphones. Sometimes while I’m wearing it, sometimes just hanging in a window. Wasting photons? Sure - it’s impossible not to, but we can all use more of them. We’ve got access to an amazing resource out there in the sky.
A large black hat hangs in a window, there is a cord connecting the hat to a pair of bright red bone conductive headphones.

Now I have a big bucket of Ontario soybeans and that’s going to last us a while!!!

60g of soybeans = ~ a litre of soy milk + okara for other things. We started with black soybeans because we had them kicking around doing nothing when I impulse bought a soymilk maker a month or two ago. And got goth milk.

One of my favourite parts of being vegan is waking up early to milk the soybeans. It’s easily the best soy milk of my whole damn life. It’s amazing in lattes. Zero waste, less cartons to recycle, delightful, delicious, no cows or calves harmed. A complete delight.

Fossil fuels are not going to offer lasting benefits for Canadians or the world. Solar power could make things better, but you seem committed to making things worse. As a former Albertan, I have got to wonder, what are you even doing?

So I’ve been vegan for over a quarter of a century and today was the first time I made soy milk at home. I used a machine of course, but the outcome was delicious. And because I used black soybeans, the milk was also goth as fuck. If I can froth this stuff for a latte I’m going to be so happy.

Instantly reminded me of this comic from ArtByMoga. Like not everyone that doesn't drink is an alcoholic, but everyone's got their own reasons, and they'd probably have already told you if they felt like it.

Listening to Barred Owls hooting at each other is an absolute delight. Even if the dog didn't have Demands™️, the bird song of the season is such a wonderful reason to go outside. I'm so delighted to have caught the exchange. Again.
A big white dog stands on the edge of a swampy area in a red harness style leash, she debates pulling me into the muddy shallow water but decides against it. The perspective is from me behind her, and there is a short bungee leash attached to me.

The ample trees are bare or with just a hint of green, but there is moss on logs and on the forest floor.

Have you ever played @worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com and looked at the sky? It's actually so gorgeous. These details make the world feel so real sometimes. I was doing some random stuff in Draenor yesterday and was genuinely startled by how lovely this was.

One of the people involved in the project was on when I visited the server and offered to show us (me and the kid) the functioning skydome roof - and we were very impressed. unsurprisingly, there are also some transit fans involved in the project. The subway stations all warp you to the next one.

We talked about the Resplendent Quetzal today. They are a really a beautiful bird, and I can see how they might have influenced the folklore around the Quetzalcoatl - especially when they're flying through the air.

I’ve decided we’re going to talk about Australia and the Tawny Frogmouth at bird nerds this week. Normally I get the kids to vote on a bird, but it’s been a few weeks since our last meeting so I’m picking the easy choice for high interest, weird little guy vibes. Look at these muppets

I’m enjoying watching all the signs of life in our sleepy forest - I suspect this is some kind of Flammulina (probably velutipes, but I’m still not going to eat it.) I’m pretty sure I startled an owlet when walking by a nest hole in a tree yesterday. (we were both quite startled.)
