![Clipping from DWB (formerly Doctor Who Bulletin) 104 published August 1994. Headline reads "More Masterplan footage found". Article reads as follows:
BBC STAFF involved in the gigantic operation to dub all Corporation’s 2” video tapes onto the D3 digital format have rediscovered a clip from the missing Hartnell epic The Daleks’ Master Plan.
The ninety-second clip from episode three, Devil's Planet, was contained in an edition of BLUE PETER from 1971. Attempts by DWM archivist Andrew Pixley to locate this very clip during research for last year’s THIRTY YEARS IN THE TARDIS documentary were foiled by the BLUE PETER production office, who claimed it never existed!
It is introduced by Peter Purves, responding to viewers’ letters asking if he was ever in DOCTOR WHO, and consists of two main scenes: is set aboard Mavic Chen's spaceship, the Spar, which has been stolen by the Doctor, Steven, Bret Vyon and Katarina during their escape from Kembel spacecraft approaches the planet Desperus, it is suddenly dragged off course and plunges towards the planet which Vyon describes as a penal colony, and that if they land there they will not get off again.
This is the only known sequence to feature Katarina speaking, even if it is only typical female-companion speak: “What's happening, Doctor?"
The first few seconds of original dialogue are obscured by Purves’ voiceover, but BBC staff are already working on redubbing this part using soundtracks recorded off-air by a fan in 1965.
The second scene is of the Daleks controlling the Spar from their control room on Kembel. Some of this scene already exists on the 5
November 1973 edition of BLUE PETER, but for that transmission it was redubbed with a partially incorrect soundtrack.
