Happy birthday! This is Tim. He’ll be 16 in August so this is pretty much all he does now. He’s learned that when he makes a horrible hacking noise we will rush to feed him, so this is how he wakes us now. It’s the worst alarm imaginable.

There are several solid options not far from Waikiki: I love both Haili’s and Da Ono Hawaiian food. And Guava Smoked is another good spot. All 3 restaurants are on Kapahulu, so you could try all 3 and compare. A Kalua pork flight!

I’m sorry you had a shit mom. I did and it seems like there are several others on here that did too. It must have been so draining to have to emotionally parent your parent. It’s amazing that you were able to set the boundaries you needed when you started your own family.

I think it has everything to do with the adoptive family and the support they can provide. My grandparents were wonderful but I don’t think they had any clue how to help her make sense of adoption. They loved her and gave her everything but couldn’t help her not feel unwanted at her core.

Mine was adopted and from the beginning she was convinced something was wrong with her to be given away. Sometimes the only thing that made her feel better was to make us kids cry until we collapsed. She’s a hoarder, broke, and addicted to pain killers. Only her brother and my dad talk to her now.
