A clout-chasing “independent reporter” pushed false fraud claims and helped trigger a massive federal response. A civilian was killed. Knowingly lying to federal agencies is a felony. If the lies were monetized or coordinated, that’s fraud — and the family could pursue a civil wrongful-death case.

ICE agents are like Probation and Parole officers. They are part of law enforcement but they don’t have the same training of police officers. They are also limited in their powers. P&P is limited to those on parole and probation and ICE are limited to immigration.
