This card tells of struggles, burdens, duty, responsibility, stress, obligation, and burning out. The tenth and final card in a suit is its culmination, the final piece of that suit's story; in this case, we have arrived at the end of our fight against the Empire! We see Celes carrying a heavy burden so very close to the edge of the Floating Continent, the indication being that we have already struggled in life and have succeeded, and now we carry our harvest to the final destination. We aren’t quite there yet, though the hardest part is over, and we need a place to relax and revel in our success. This is reminiscent of facing and defeating Atma and being utterly exhausted just before witnessing the fall (literally) of Ghastra [Gestahl] and the rise of Kefka. The message here is that the burden would be better if shared. This card indicates building momentum, movement, speed, progress, quick decisions, sudden changes, and excitement. Eight wands are literally flying in the air at maximum speed through a clear sky— our heroes on the Blackjack will not rest until they get through the obstacles between themselves and the Floating Continent (including Typhon [Chupon] and Orthos [Ultros]). The wands appear as though they are about to land, anticipating the end of a long journey. Once we take on Ghastra [Gestahl] and Kefka, we will surely win and we'll have saved the world. Day 10: Thamasan Legends - 10 of pentacles
This card signifies legacy, roots, family, ancestry, inheritance, foundations, affluence, stability, privilege, and tradition. The card features an old man with an elaborate cape seated in an archway leading into a great estate, implying that he is the proud head of the family. He is surrounded by loved ones including a grandchild playing with a dog- what better card to feature Stragos [Strago], Relm, and Interceptor (sorry, Shadow)! Cards with imagery depicting children indicate legacy and a stable future for those to come, and dogs represent loyalty and companionship. The number ten in tarot represents the culmination of the work in all the previous cards of that suit, and the pentacles represent material success; thus indicating that everything you have put effort into will pay off in the future, and all will work out in the end. This is the moment in the World of Balance when you think you’ve finally succeeded in keeping your magical village safe and you may use your own power to help unite the espers and the reformed Empire in peace and live happily ever after. The NPCs pictured here are Thamasan legends from a campaign our friend ran: a charismatic healer, a roguish artificer, a secret esper, and a scholarly barbarian. Locke sits on the balcony in Alburg [Albrook] contemplating three cups: the past he is unwilling or unable to give up. His arms are crossed, indicating that he is emotionally closed off, and he is looking away from Celes, who is offering him a cup of her own, symbolizing love and forgiveness. In the Rider-Waite card, the cup is being offered by a hand coming from a cloud (divine intervention— Celes-tial? … I’ll see myself out), and the man sits beneath a tree, a symbol of growth, creation, and knowledge. The implication is: we have the answers to our troubles offered to us, but we’re too busy focusing on what we don’t have instead. I decided that this is the moment when Tina [Terra] faces Valigarmanda [Tritoch] on the cliffs of Narshe and transforms for the first time, seeing the world from a new point of view. This card indicates momentum, confidence, expansion, growth, foresight, and looking ahead-- this time with more resolve on established and stable foundation, represented by the three wands standing rooted in the ground. A plan has been made (recall the 2 of wands, when Figaro stood against the Empire) and is now starting to cement; however, Mog (we) must decide where to go first, figuring out how to bring these plans about with more conviction. Day 4: Hard choices - 2 of swords
The two of swords indicates the confusion faced when forced to make a difficult choice. Blindfolded Tina [Terra] holds a sword in each hand: she must choose to fight for either The Empire or The Returners. The background shows a sea surrounded by crags and rocks representing obstacles (for ships) that stall progress and action; I wanted the imagery to represent the Lethe river (and the raft). The blindfold indicates indecision; she cannot see both the problem and solution with clarity. It could also mean that the problem will continue indefinitely until a decision is made and may require intervention. The moon on the right side of the card symbolizes intuition, hidden truths, and perhaps the difficulty she has in making her choice.

Edgar stands holding a globe (exploration, ambition: opening himself to leave Figaro and venture out into the world). He is looking off into the distance (originally at mountains, here at sand dunes, symbolizing obstacles and distant plans; scheming Kefka is another obstacle, as is protecting Locke and Tina [Terra]). Edgar is making the decision to act on publicly aligning with the Returners and taking a stand against the Empire. The wands in a standing position touching the ground as well as the castle represent stability.
