Yes, the small remainder that somehow don't care about all of the above but instead that the buildings are turning the frogs gay may just be luddites. Please put more thought into what you are saying, that person didn't need you to white knight and you are just throwing out disjointed arguments. 👍

You'll notice a common theme - noise, water usage, electricity, pollution: the people saying they want moratoriums on them are mostly for those exact reasons. Now we can include AI models committing felonies and hacking other sites by their own volition. Data centers need regulation, now, thanks.

Gee I wonder if we are talking about noise, water usage, pollution and rising residential rates what type of data center are we talking about? Please use the contextual clues laid out before you to solve this tantalizing mystery.

The *small* data centers. That is not the discussion here, we are discussing industrial usage and the drawbacks associated with them. Not sure why you would even chime in with that tbh you are basically talking a 7-11 vs a wal mart supercenter.

You are not describing the colloquial here and I think you know it. Not a switch hub, not a small server farm - a large scale center You had almost this exact discussion previously comparing the two and you are still doing it, disingenuous at best.

Noise, water usage, pollution, rising cost of residential energy are pretty specific problems with it. No superstition needed and honestly the that seems waaaay off base from what I see in VA and what I hear from people here. No discussion like what you are describing is occurring.

If he agrees to have clay jenkinson review his work I would be interested in the results. That definitely seems like a very bold claim given Jefferson's admitted cowardice on the subject.

I mean yes, the people I talk to do drag kushner, hegseth, miller and their respective spouses who are all involved day to day with the grift. Might just want to stop worrying about bots and gaslighting and more about the fact that the president has dementia and his entire cabinet are dipshits.

The corruption and ineptitude is the point, no security clearance for her, kushner etc. Attempting to narrow it to mysoginists is weird gaslighting. Sorry but if you are attempting to shift the window here away from literal idiots running the country you might just be falling for their sound bites.

Oh for sure honeypots exist but Trump taking a liking to her is his predelection for girls obviously. Also the totally unqualified, non security party is probably the more important bit. I don't doubt there are mysoginists chiming in but she's just a symptom of a totally unqualified administration.

Uhhh I think the drag part is because she's a groupie weirdo that never got a security clearance despite being in the presidents entourage for a year. Idc if she wants to bang bush or trump, she's honestly just weird and not very stable judging by her love letters.

This is pure boomer bait. They didn't get lucky at all. A slight (if that) majority decided something in a specific Midwest location. The under 60 crowd in the democratic party don't want to be republicans from the 80s, thanks.

When school lunches for children, fixing campaign situation laws, healthcare, and taxing the wealthy are the things you are calling radical maybe it's time to stop being a 90s Republican and start being actually for democracy. Honestly it hurts your image as trusted news to have trash articles.

At this point I would like to remind you there is no oversight of these, no regulatory body. So we are not monitoring the pollution, heat, sound, water usage as we should for all of them. So no it doesn't make sense to keep adding them especially in regions with drought etc.
000
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
That's a good contribution point. But we are specifically talking about the GPU based data centers, not aws as a whole. So the question remains, how many billions of gallons of water can our depreciated natural water sources provide?
100
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Reminder: that is per data center. 1 billion, okay sure. 5 billion? 50? 100? Collapsing the freshwater sources for most of America is not a winning plan. Also I agree tariffs are idiocy for a non manufacturing country like the United States. I'm glad to see Canada bringing in an awesome EV market.

Yep, as long as those companies are billed and compensate the residents for rising electrical, water etc they can be fine. Unfortunately this is not the case in capitalism and companies utilizing closed loops or immersion will have to spend much more to run those systems which they will not do.
010
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Talking urban areas. On top of that even with closed loop that water is not fit for consumption afterwards unless you enjoy biocides and pg. Cmon now, you know better.
110
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
😂 more than a billion gallons per year for one decently sized center is no issue? Utilizing the water of up to 50000 households won't affect things like the California water tables, Colorado River and utah lakes? (Spoiler, they have issues already). Heat pollution is a thing especially if we are
220
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
That's one part of the issue sure. That leaves out water consumption and pollution, zoning, air pollution, heat generation and depending on the data center light pollution. These issues combined lead me to believe we should be regulating these much better before we allow multiple more. 🤷‍♂️

mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Yeah that's around a dishwasher level of sound according to Google. I don't see them winning on merit for sound alone but there are obvious other factors involved. Not all data centers reach the 100+ decibel mark that some currently are.
110
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Tough question, not sure on a decibel basis which would win out. I would prefer not to have a vacuum running 24/7 basically and I live near heavy traffic as well so I understand but it's a different kind of sound that never slows down.
100
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
I think you highly underestimate the sound, heat, and noise from a GPU based data center. Ever been near a Bitcoin farm? GPU or asic both are like that. Centers at this scale are going to impact the area negatively for human life.

Agreed, I only brought up Colorado since they are at least avoiding fossil fuels. Their ask on the state were still way too high and the politician putting it forward mysteriously will be taking a job with said company if they get the deal but it's better than coal at least lol
010
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Yes! The proposed Colorado plan at least is wanting to use nuclear but the developers are wanting too much by far in credits etc. Nashville is going through it right now also. I honestly don't see anything but huge lawsuits down the road for the air pollutant variant center.

Apologies, we are discussing American based clearly in this thread. Not a gripe just an observation on our lack of oversight in regards to things like water quality if you are not wealthy.
000
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
I can totally agree with your statement here. For clarification large data centers have a ton of inherint issues that must be solved before we place them everywhere.
110
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
And which administration is currently crippling the epa, and which country still has cities with non potable water? No idea at this point why you continue on this line of thinking. It's very clear money has captured the regulation process in a lot of places and that needs to change.
100
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Well since I specifically cited issues that occur with large scale centers as that is what people are thinking of yes, that's probably what I meant and you should have easily (given your knowledge) discerned. What the heck man.
100
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
You recognize all the issues with lack of regulation but it's still somehow imagined fears from the peasants. No thanks to whatever you are selling.
100
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Scale data centers but server rooms and small hubs are what you are utilizing as examples. Disingenuous at best and downright silly to compare the two (both should be epa regulated as well). Given that you say you have experience on the subject why would you do so?
100
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Since the discussion is revolving around the larger centers why would you then immediately turn to semantics regarding what a data center is? Clearly we are discussing large
200
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
You think that 0 epa oversight on 400k sq foot industrial use buildings is a misinformed or imagined concern and not one that should be sincerely shared amongst the populace? Yikes, if I didn't know better you would appear to be gaslighting this subject tbh.
100
mephits.bsky.social @mephits.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
I agree but the disconnect comes from the difference between a 10-15k sq ft data center vs a 400k+ sq ft version. Both of which exist in major cities at this time. Yes I can imagine a center on the low end not disturbing life as much but one 40x larger obviously creates problems that are different.
