It was really a weird thing, to draw aether not from you but from the stars above, enhancing your magic with divination cards… Not something she was used to. When you wielded a blade, you just had to carry it and move. It was… natural. Instinctive.

Every single day she had lived with this burden, the fact she left him without even saying goodbye, telling herself how much better she could have done and yet… All he could muttered was despicable words. And she was tired of this. Since everything that had transpired after their last travel there, time has passed but she never truly returned yet. He accepted knowing Mephilia would fend for herself with ease and so she hopped onto the rift, aiming for the castle.

The sky was purple, just like in Mephilia’s vision. But it was… Calm. Serene. Still. Not as agitated as in her visions. The building at the horizon felt… Awfully familiar. Again, the castle was filled with ravenous enemies that were soon… dissipated, as death didn’t seem to be a concept anymore in here. It wasn’t until they reached a room full of portraits that the scythe of the red-haired fell onto the floor, the sound echoing in the room. Her orange eyes were glued to the portrait of a beautiful woman, with long and silky reddish hair. She looked regal in her outfit, holding a scepter, and looking at the audience with such confidence…

Her steps echoing in the open corridors of the capital, Mephilia still was nervous. The last time she was part of a military branch was in her teenage years… Of course she could handle herself, fight her own fights and lead as well as follow a squadron should she have to. Her sense of camaraderie wasn’t lost. It was… Weakened. But every time she closed her eyes, white strands of hair and turquoise eyes would remind her that everything would be okay.

For as long as she remembers, she always held dearly to it. And just as usual, the crystal was conveying such a warm and reassuring feeling… It took her long seconds before she let go of it, putting in on the desk in a tud.
