Change - The Menopause Foundation of Canada
Millions of women in Canada struggle to access basic, evidence-based menopause care. One of the biggest barriers is that many healthcare providers lack the education, training, and confidence to provide support and treatment. This is not a failure of individual providers. Canada’s doctors and nurse practitioners are already overburdened. The problem is systemic: menopause is a universal life stage affecting half the population, yet it remains largely absent from medical education, leaving many providers relying on outdated information. Most menopause care should be delivered through primary care, with only the more complex cases referred to specialists, who currently have long waitlists. Canada must build clinical capacity in menopause care across family medicine, gynecology, and related specialties.

Changement - The Menopause Foundation of Canada

"Some countries have started to act. Can we do the same?" This is what MFC has been asking & advocating for. Unmanaged menopause symptoms can have a significant impact on the lives of women & on the Canadian economy. We cannot afford to have up to a 1/4 of our working population sidelined.

We are aligning with the Women’s Health Campaign & support advancement of Bill S-243, a national framework designed to improve health outcomes for women across Canada. This legislation reflects the urgency we see every day with gaps in menopause care. #ForWomenForCanada #WomensHealthMatters
We’re heading to Ottawa to advocate for a national framework for women’s health.
We are proud to align our advocacy efforts with the Women’s Health Campaign and support the advancement of Bill S-243, a national framework designed to improve health outcomes for women across Canada.
This legislation reflects the urgency we see every day with gaps in menopause care. Menopause is an important health transition, yet many women struggle to find healthcare providers who have the knowledge and the confidence to deliver the comprehensive care they need. While safe and effective treatments for bothersome symptoms are available, many women don’t have easy or equitable access to them.
Women over 40 make up one quarter of the population and of the workforce. It is estimated that unmanaged symptoms of menopause cost the Canadian economy $3.5 billion every year due to missed days of work, lost productivity, and women losing income during their peak earning years. We have an exciting opportunity to change this reality.
