This is a shining example of the fallacy of the pro-genAI narrative. genAI results are touted as a reliable truth. The actual truth is that they are summary-machines on speed, summarizing a wide range of information: accurate, accidentally inaccurate, and, in this case, deliberately misleading

just for Final Fantasy VII, afaik (I played VII-X in my youth, I know he wasn't in the earlier ones, i can't speak to if he was ever brought back after X) tbf, he does sound like a LoTR character, or a Klingon or etc. It's a solid but generic-ish sci-fi/fantasy bad guy name

for her situations it's fine i think? but she still resents it and avoids using it if possible, she takes the attitude of 'why am i training genAI to make me obsolete?'

the push for AI for her is for things like spreadsheet manipulation (she manages a lot of data) or project management. I have a lot of chops to make complex formulae to get spreadsheets to do what I want. AI has made that obsolete, if you tell AI what you want, it creates the forumale for you

if this is meaningful to you at all, pre-agile, her role would have been called "business analyst"

basically a business/IT negotiator. business says "we need our software to do this" (or she recognizes the need on her own) she translates that to IT speak, IT then says "we can/can't do that", she works with both sides to find common ground or to stand ground on either side as needed

this is def the sentiment that my partner has, she doesn't work in IT but she works as a product owner and the company has been pushing for use of AI for her tasks. She's pretty much, "the AI is taking away the fun parts of my job"

There’s a composer who’s been offering courses as an alternative to academia, which as a concept is fine, but when all of your success stories are older adults with full-time jobs outside of music, you wonder how much success comes from the privilege of having that income already.
