Farmers, growers, butchers, market gardeners, the whole web that keeps us fed. When any part of it is squeezed too hard, we feel it in prices, in choice, and in how fragile everything suddenly becomes. Food security is not something you notice until it starts to wobble. By then it is already late.

This is great “marketing” because it’s not marketing. It’s translation. “Made with real fruit.” “Fortified with vitamins.” Often means a tiny % of the thing, plus processing, flavouring and sugar. If supermarkets were honest, packaging would be plain English.

When seeds are patented and supply chains get more concentrated, farmers and eaters both lose choice, and biodiversity is usually the first thing sacrificed. Clear labelling is the bare minimum. Without it, “choice” is just a marketing word.

In the 1950s, the UK grew, produced, and ate far more of the food we needed. Today we’re a net importer and that is a vulnerability. Outsource food and you outsource standards and resilience. We can’t shop our way out of this. We have to grow our way out. #foodsecurity
