Broadly conceived, our theme invites participants to consider the creation of literary & artistic otherworlds, abstract otherworld journeys, or mythical, spiritual and social otherworlds.
Broadly conceived, our theme invites participants to consider the creation of literary & artistic otherworlds, abstract otherworld journeys, or mythical, spiritual and social otherworlds. We encourage practice and industry-based researchers to consider historic buildings, museums, and modern media forms such as period television, film, historical fiction writing, theatrical performance and videogames as windows into the ‘Other’ worlds of the past. Narratives of travel, conflict, colonisation and encounter can be explored as the intersection of ‘Other’ worlds colliding. We look forward to seeing how our brilliant community responds to this invitation and interprets the theme within the context of their own research projects.

This event promises to be so much fun. Don't just take our word for it though, hear what last year's delegates had to say!
This image includes quotes from our 2025 feedback survey:

“A totally invaluable and unique experience, particularly for PhD researchers - the blending of academic discussion, creative workshops, skill acquisition and socialising is so, so helpful.”

“I can only say that this experience was truly fantastic, impeccably organised, and the range of workshops and afternoon activities in the city was absolutely engaging and useful. This conference was conceived, organized, and executed with attention to the smallest detail, and the result was nothing short of sensational. I hope there will be more in-person events like this.”

“This was one of the most well organised conferences I have attended, the team gave us detailed information and also provided a relaxed and welcoming environment. I would definitely attend another MEMRN event in the future!”
