One of the most beautiful images of Neptune, IMO, was processed by @andrealuck.bsky.social www.flickr.com/photos/19227... 🔭 🧪
This stunning NIRCam image captures the distant planet Neptune and its largest moon, Triton, in unprecedented detail. The image reveals Neptune's faint rings and its distinctive blue hue, while Triton appears as a bright object nearby. This image offers a new perspective on this distant planetary system and provides valuable insights into the composition and dynamics of these celestial bodies.

Merging galaxies IC 2163 and NGC 2207. This image was made from both JWST (MIRI) and Hubble data. Processed by Dr. Mehmet Hakan Özsaraç. www.flickr.com/photos/mhozs... 🔭 🧪
A stunning cosmic dance: A combined image from the Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope's MIRI instrument captures the intricate interaction between the spiral galaxies IC 2163 and NGC 2207. The image reveals a mesmerizing display of swirling gas, dust, and young stars, showcasing the dynamic forces at play as these galaxies collide and merge.

Space penguin. This is Arp 142, two interacting galaxies NGC 2936 and NGC 2937. Processed by c.claude. www.flickr.com/photos/27527... 🔭 🧪
The James Webb Space Telescope's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) captured this striking image of Arp 142, a pair of interacting galaxies. Their close encounter has distorted their shapes and triggered a burst of star formation. A bridge of gas and dust stretches between the two galaxies, showcasing the violent and dynamic nature of galactic interactions.

93% full today.
Photo of a nearly full moon set against a dark, black sky. The moon’s surface details, including light and dark patches indicating craters and maria (lunar plains), are visible, giving it a textured appearance. The moon has a slightly warm tin

Now that I’m on a platform where people actually see and engage with my posts again, I cannot wait to do my annual holiday book recommendations thread. Y’all are going to get bookskyed so hard.

Ill-fated lovers.
A meet-cute between a man and woman.
He says "I love astrology."
She replies "Me too."
He's thinking of traditional astrology and magic (Chris Brennan, Demetra George, Ali Olomi, Christopher Warnock, Firmicus Maternus, The Picatrix)
She's thinking of the Co-Star app.

once again thinking about the fact that this is all just OUT THERE and we can only see it through the eyes of telescopes
The background of space is black. Thousands of galaxies appear all across the view. Their shapes and colors vary. Some are various shades of orange, others are white. Most stars appear blue, and are sometimes as large as more distant galaxies that appear next to them. A very bright star is just above and left of center. It has eight bright blue, long diffraction spikes. Between 4 o’clock and 6 o’clock in its spikes are several very bright galaxies. A group of three are in the middle, and two are closer to 4 o’clock. These galaxies are part of the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, and they are warping the appearances of galaxies seen around them. Long orange arcs appear at left and right toward the center.A massive cloud of gas and dust is seen in dark, dusty red, with its outer portions a translucent, ethereal gray. Several stars and distant galaxies are scattered throughout the image.A circular-shaped nebula with a complex structure. On the circle’s exterior, particularly on the left side of the image, are curtains of material glowing orange like fire. Interior to this outer shell is a ring of mottled filaments in bright pink, studded with clumps and knots. A greenish loop extends from the upper right of the ring into the central cavity. Translucent wisps of blue, green, and red appear throughout the image. The star cluster Pismis 24 lies within the much larger emission nebula called NGC 6357, located about 8,000 light-years from Earth. The cluster is seen here above a small portion of the nebula. The gas below the stars glows through ionization caused by intense ultraviolet radiation from the massive young stars within the cluster. The strong radiation and stellar winds from from these blazing, blue-white stars also pushes the nebular material outward, creating one of many low-density bubbles within NGC 6357.
