An absolute banger of a book. I am sad that I have to now wait a whole year for the next book in the series. I have had such a good time this year reading so much of this author.

Here are their names and a wonderful soul created a website to keep track of them. Thecornell7.org Also, since we are talking about college rapists Brock Turner now goes by Allen Turner and lives in Ohio

Instead, they become Presidents and Supreme Court justices.

I hope the Cornell Seven never know a day of peace ever again. I hope the shame and stench of their actions follow them around for the rest of their miserable lives. I want there to be justice for this young woman but we live in a country that rarely makes the perpetrators of sex crimes pay.

new favorite baker just dropped (I am finally watching the new ep of Bake Off)

screenshots from the latest season of British Bake Off of a chef named Mo, he's a tan skinned young man. He's got dark hair falling over his forehead and a beard. He's saying, "I come with a lot of baggage, but it's, like, the good baggage."

Mo continued, "Like Louis Vuitton baggage."

It was my first time cutting an apple on a mandolin and I will admit, it was a bit nerve-wracking.

000

Melanie/Mel @melonreads.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

It is actually shockingly simple to make and the only real special equipment you need is a mandoline slicer to cut the apples very very thin.

Fall means fall baking (we’ll ignore the 90° temps this week) so I made an invisible apple cake (Gâteau Invisible aux Pommes):

Asking to have your book reviewed and then adding that the book and cover were both produced with AI assistance is a bold move. Hard pass, no thanks.

(But definitely worth the close to 4 months I spent waiting for my library loan to come in).

Melanie/Mel @melonreads.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

This was so good (very steamy) but also has on page death of a loved one and related grief so while I definitely recommend this (and the other 2 books in the series), I do want to make sure readers know there’s some heavy emotional stuff in this one.

Ranting about a piece of media only to realize I’m actually not the target demographic is a particularly bad trait of mine. Not everything is meant for me. Most things, in fact, probably aren’t!

I’ve realized that sometimes I stress bake and other times, I stress organize. Today was a stress organize day. Which led to the realization that my husband randomly keeps empty boxes, like he’ll take the stuff out, it’s being used, and also the empty box is just…sitting there. WHY???

OMG It was so good. I love competency kink so much and I loved the FMC in this one but also the author herself is an archeology expert and it really showed in the plotting. Just so so good. I immediately want to read everything by her lol.

Also, side note, I love a good, informative authors note and this one had a great one and I actually ended up doing a dive into the thermo-con house that featured so prominently in this book. Really just was super riveting.
