All That Jazz + Jaws are a perfect double feature: both star Roy Scheider, both could’ve starred Richard Dreyfus, both include Scheider drinking red wine from a pint glass, and both feature a predatory animal who sidles up when you least expect it to wreak havoc. #Jaws50 @mattcampagna.bsky.social

I’m really proud of this film and buoyed by the comments I’ve received from audience members that have complicated or toxic relationships with their mothers (or other family members) and what it means to see that explored in the film. I hope you’ll check it out! 🎬💔💃🏻

This scene was surprisingly easy to shoot despite its heaviness - mostly because #WendieMalick is such a generous actor that I just had to listen and respond. Writing about #NarcAbuse is always tricky - this was our attempt to express how complicated these relationships can be #MOASFilm

Better Man is an example of the kinds of big, creative swings that excite me in filmmaking. Amazing CGI used as a narrative and character-building tool that adds to the emotional depth of the story, instead of distancing us from it. A bold, flashy, poignant exploration of fame and grief.

Great primer on The Brutalist’s shooting format, VistaVision; if you’re curious why the lens flares in the film are vertical instead of horizontal, this thread shows you a diagram about why. Fun fact: this huge format played a part in Star Wars’ effects being so uniquely believable in the 70s!

Hey, TV Producers, when a person approaches a mic in a club or restaurant there will be no sharp, grating feedback screech unless they move the mic very close to the speakers. Please stop using this sound effect.

Constantly thinking of this Marilyn Frye quote From @taylorlorenz.bsky.social’s newsletter www.usermag.co/p/tiktok-is-...
Headline: Do men know what an actual woman looks like?

Candid, paparazzi photos of actor Sydney Sweeney in a purple bikini

Text: After candid photos of Sydney Sweeney in a bikini leaked online, thousands of men on X have been having a full on mental breakdown because she doesn't look exactly the same as when she's glammed up for an award show or airbrushed in a magazine. They've been tearing her apart for her body, her face, and basically calling her an ugly hag and a catfish. The entire "controversy" reminds me of the famous quote from philosopher Marilyn Frye, who wrote in her book, The Politics of Reality:
Essays in Feminist Theory, "To say that straight men are heterosexual is only to say that they engage in sex (fucking exclusively with the other sex, i.e., women). All or almost all of that which pertains to love, most straight men reserve exclusively for other men. The people whom they admire, respect, adore, revere, honor, whom they imitate, idolize, and form profound attachments to, whom they are willing to teach and from whom they are willing to learn, and whose respect, admiration, recognition, honor, reverence and love they desire... those are, overwhelmingly, other men.
In their relations with women, what passes for respect is kindness, generosity or paternalism; what passes for honor is removal to the pedestal. From women they want devotion, service and sex. Heterosexual male culture is homoerotic; it is man-loving."

Another part is digital cinematographers shooting flat “log” or “raw” formats so colourists have maximum flexibility in the colour grade. But filmmakers can get ‘temp love’ and get used to the flat look during the edit, never using that flexibility in the grade to go for higher contrast. #FilmSky
