*Finally* finished S1 of Wayward Pines. The book had a DNF moment in it but the TV show wasn't the same so finally went beyond the first episode. Great show, I rec it, it does have moments of graphic violence and some horror. Similars to other shows: The Prisoner, The X-Files. #tvsky #booksky

A quote from Donald E. Westlake's Dortmunder series. I didn't note which book! But you can assume they're all this funny. I describe the series as a 1980's Steve Martin movie mixed with a heist/caper movie from the 70's. Bookshop series #1 ebook affiliate link: bookshop.org/a/109872/978... #booksky

“A friend of mine'll follow him home tonight", Tiny said, "to get me the address. He's on the four to twelve. Around one, I'll put on a ski mask and go to that guy's house and put his head in his holster." "A ski mask," Dortmunder echoed. He was thinking how much good a ski mask would do to disguise this monster. In order to be effectively disguised, Tiny would have to put on, at a minimum, a three-room apartment.

Love this from screenwriter @colbyday.com. This is what I do, but not becuz of sage advice but from a lack of self-discipline. 😄 Follow or subscribe to his substack: substack.com/@colbyday #writersky #authorsky

Colby Day said: One of the best pieces of writing advice I've gotten: Follow the heat. When you sit down to write, don't force yourself through the scene you're "supposed" to write next. Write the thing that's alive in your head right now. The thing that has energy. Because that energy transfers to the page. Readers feel it.

She was working her way through her eggs when a bearded man in a flannel shirt and faded jeans slid onto the bench across from her. His plate was piled so high with food that an avalanche of olives, cubes of cheese, and a portion of bread pudding toppled onto the table when he sat down.
“If there’s one thing I love,” he said, “it’s free grub.”
He spoke with an indecipherable American southern accent, a little bit of the Carolinas mixed with backwater Louisiana. He wore a sweat-stained American flag bandana around his head. His bushy mustache and beard were so thick and mangy, it was like he had a wild animal sitting on his face. The only things she could see clearly behind all of that hair were the tip of his nose and his compelling brown eyes.
“Aren’t you afraid someone will recognize your nose?” Kate asked him.
“I’m a risk taker,” he said. “What gave me away? Was it the nose?”
“It was the desire to punch you in the face.” Kate forked in more eggs and a chunk of sausage. From The Job by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg

Bear was choosy about who he talked to, but once he decided you were okay, he was quite the conversationalist. Frank would sit there absolutely silent; first two nights he was around me, he didn’t say a word. Lots of looks across the table, though, so I decided he was shy, not hostile. Third night, Bear turned to him every couple of minutes and said, ‘Shut up, Harriman.’ Frank got the hint.”
