This week it’s the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon. And yes, every entrant gets a Wizz Air voucher worth €20! This blatant use of running to promote flying is sportswashing. At a time when we desperately need to be reducing emissions, we don’t need our sport propping up polluting businesses.

🧵 Matt Goodwin demanded to be fact-checked live on air when he claimed the UK spent "£100 million PER YEAR on family planning and condoms in Pakistan". He then 'corrected' himself to £74.3 million, saying it was based on a "major news story from October 2025" He was, of course, still wrong... 1/30
Screenshot of LBC tweet:

How much has the UK actually spent on condoms in Pakistan?

Henry Riley is sceptical about Matt Goodwin's numbers so the reform politician calls himself to be fact-checked live on air.

Bowling Green Marsh is only fed with rain water & run-off, so it gives a good indication of just how dry the summer & autumn have been. Every time I share a photo I say I’ve never seen it so dry before. And today is no different. 1st pic today. 2nd pic Sep 2021 #ClimateEmergency

Absolutely 💯 So many ways to take action, whether addressing national issues, joining local groups or adjusting our own individual behaviours. I’ve been taking steps against all three and am inspired by the film to keep going.

I stopped my run to listen to this wonderful bird. My first Wood Lark for a few years. Despite running around the hills, the Wood Larks have eluded me recently. I suspect there aren’t as many these days. A joy to hear 🤩

My longest run for a while. I ran from home up into the Haldon foothills running along quiet lanes. I paid a visit to a trig & found some unexplored tracks through a wood. Cirl Buntings were singing, a Firecrest called, a Fallow Deer stag snoozed in the sun but best of all….. see next post 👇🏻

Short walk around the Commons this morning. An unexpected Wheatear & four singing Dartford Warblers. There’s great view over much of my map from the viewpoint near the castle. The arrow points to the BT tower at Waddles Down on the horizon, where I ran to from home on Monday. #local #Devon

From Waddles Down, I headed across fields into Whitestone Wood. Off piste, it was slow going through the trees. Fallow Deer didn’t expect me to be there. At the wood edge I found a permissive path. Brilliant, another new route across my map. I didn’t look at the map, I let the path take the lead.

Y’day I ran from home up to Waddles Down, up in the NW corner of my map. The BT tower is visible from miles around. Once you leave the Exe, it is up, up, up the lanes. The views are fantastic across Exeter, down the coast, across to the moors. Surprised to find 4 Cirl Buntings nr the tower.

Start of the month compared to the end of the month at Bowling Green Marsh, Topsham. The water level continues to fall. The puddle on the right in the top picture has now all but gone. Someone asked me yesterday what has happened to the marsh. I simply replied “climate change” 😢

This afternoon I headed out to Cranbrook. There are plenty of streets through the new town that I’ve yet to run. I wasn’t expecting to get much from the run, but as ever there were a few surprises: a country road linking Cranbrook to Broadclyst Station, green lanes and green spaces. Enjoyed that.
