My wife is a very seasoned software developer and her speciality is complex problems that nobody else has been able to solve. AI definitely does not triple her productivity but management still expects it to because they apparently don't remember why they needed to hire her in the first place.

I mean... you're on bsky right now, you can literally scroll the various Green Party accounts and see what *they're* saying and not just what *the press* say about what they're saying. Because expecting anything fair, good or worthwhile from the press in this scenario is folly

If I'm patronising it's because I'm weary of this relentless "Greens don't talk about the environment" shite that's been happening for months. They do and they have. But the media don't care about you knowing any of that so they won't feed it to you

Why do you suppose that is, hmm?

It kinda is the point though. Labour are acting like this is some principled stance they've taken in light of recent events when it was never on the cards in the first place. It's cynical and insulting

They literally ruled it out yonks ago and there's no reason to assume anything changed in the meantime. Them behaving like this is a brand new development is absurd and even a little insulting

You can blame either your own attention span or the news outlets you follow considering other things more important for that then, because they literally talk about tackling climate crisis, investment into renewables, wildfires, ecological effects of sewage in rivers etc all the damn time

Age 11/12 for me too. Presumably because that was the age where I suddenly spent a lot more time standing alone at bus stops. Lots of creeps out there trying their luck with tiny uniformed girls, pulling up and offering weird comments and lifts to school

She's another malignant piece of shit, making sure we start the week off with as much pompous bigoted whining as possible

Wow, what a malignant piece of shit she is.

Well, quite. Like the obsession with finding a "gay gene". I don't see any way on this earth that a reliable diagnostic biomarker like that wouldn't ultimately be turned towards something eugenics-y

When my wife came out as trans one of the first things I did was go looking on the internet for advice on how to navigate it because I wanted us to stay together. Basically *everything* I saw was misery, bitterness & acrimonious divorce. It was scary & gave a very skewed idea of what to expect

It's all so fucking bleak. I could weep at how far we've fallen. And so quickly

I remember the optimism happening around me. I'd have to leave the room when people would talk about it because I didn't want to be a mood-killer but I also couldn't quell my creeping sense of foreboding.

Lazy false equivalence is the Guardian's specialty. They love a bit of smug handwringing about fake problems

Twas ever thus. Doesn't even have to be meaningfully better, just has to jangle some shiny keys and promise jam tomorrow, apparently. I'm done waiting on to-do lists. I'm gonna need to see some actual, tangible improvements being made

People insisted I wait and see about Starmer and it turns out I was right the first time 🤷‍♀️ Wake me when Burnham stops punching down on trans people. How many of YOUR rights are you eager to "compromise" on?

People are way too impressed by platitudes and empty promises of jam tomorrow. I wish they had a bit more self respect

Genuinely, the only time I ever think about Corbyn is when one of these bores brings him up. And yet they insist the rest of us are obsessed with the guy

The irony that OP once somewhat understood that concept is quite funny too

Dominie Leigh @melarune.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
My cynical prediction is that he never intends to do any of it but he's falling back on the usual tactic of promising jam tomorrow in the hopes that he can coerce enough desperate people into giving him yet another handful of years in which to sit on his arse and maintain the shitty status quo

DO IT ALL NOW @andyburnham.bsky.social or accept you'll do none of it. Because if it isn't done by '29 - EU, social care, undoing the normalisation of hate, donations, fixing the media, the NHS, getting vampiric private equity out of our infrastructure - you'll hand us to the far right in '29.

The last UK general election is a recent example. People insisted Starmer was just politicking and would veer left once he actually had power. They were the most shocked of pikachus when that obviously didn't happen Please, America. Don't hamstring yourself with the same wishful thinking

Yes! It all looks weirdly shiny and over-sharpened... and there's no real solid idea of what the important light source is. There's a sun in the background and also something bright reflected in the glasses and everything has odd rim lighting so nothing looks anchored in space, like collaged clipart

I was in a little place in Spain a few weeks ago and the hotel provided all of the usual toiletries as well as toothpaste, toothbrush and razor. I was amazed. If I'd known that ahead of time I wouldn't have bothered packing my own

GPs sent my friend home with painkillers when she needed her gallbladder out. When they finally figured out what was going on and put her on a 3 year waiting list, it was almost too late. She's lucky she could afford to fly to Lithuania and get what turned out to be a lifesaving surgery

Predictably, she's embracing the grift rather than concentrating on nursing. Mind you, having a nasty piece of work like this involved in the care of sick and vulnerable people sounds like a wretched state of affairs, so there's that

"sometimes" Funny, I've been hearing this refrain my whole life. It seems to be more of an "every time" thing and, looking around, it doesn't look like it's yielded great results. Likely because (sing it with me): The lesser evil is STILL EVIL!

It's so handy when you have a local that sometimes doesn't bother to cook them to perfection so the pastry is limp and flabby instead of flaky and golden. My local Greggs is just a couple doors away from my local Iceland so it's a no brainer really

The Disney renaissance movies used to look different. They were planned to be printed on 35 mm film -- that's how they were first released. Modern editions skip that last step in the process. It was a highly developed, overlooked craft, as we explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/disneys-fi...
