I should warn you that there are people outside the US who drive and have the internet so this may not provide the data you're hoping for.

Actually kinda three although De Marco was quite annoyed that it seemed to be part of her job.

Elvis and the Beatles, Pink Floyd and The Animals defined their teens and twenties! But in the minds of management (all Genx and older Millennials) old people listen to Vera Lynn.

Fascinating side-issue. There is a huge problem in care homes at the moment where residents are complaining that all the music being played is WW2 nostalgia stuff. The very oldest of them were barely born in 1945, and most actually grew up on rock and roll, their first pocket money records were

There's no such thing as a Centrist. Only shy conservatives.

US "anti censorship" censor interferes with EU foreign interference discussion by censoring it.

Weirdly, insisting that an entire people are born terrorists and treating them as such is an extremely effective way to drive some of them to terrorism.

That or the new societally accepted psychopomp. Less good in a Prime Minister, admittedly.

I don't want to look like Im boosting continuity Kier but calling someone a "Paddington Bear" anything means to me that they are earnest, benevolent, no-nonsense, that sounds like a good PM to me. Once again wishing the Labour party were as cool as Tory criticism makes them sound!

I don't *think* I have SAD, I just prefer summer. Mostly because all temperature is uncomfortable, and I would rather be uncomfortably warm, than uncomfortably cold.

I think a lot of people in the US think TV is still made on the old syndication format where episodes were written and shot weekly and (deliberately collected and collated, not parasocially directed) fan feedback could be taken into account and could steer future episodes to retain eyes on for ads.

It honestly feels like deliberate sabotage. I wouldn't be checking her for Al Qa'ida links, I'd be checking her for Tory, Blue Labour, and Reform links.

I'm extremely annoyed about this. Something can be factually true, and morally correct to say, without it having to be party policy and publicity voted on in a headline making fashion days before a by-election that could very well shape the course of politics to come in this country.

(obviously doesn't help that there are some things, like permission and opportunity to do harm, that I would deprive them of. But mostly it's mirror thinking occupying the bit of their brains where empathy ought to be so that they simply can't imagine other people not meaning them harm for existing)

So much of the argument from the people I disagree with, who are actually doing harm, is "you want to take this [right/freedom/nice thing] away from me!" and I really struggle to make them understand "no, I don't, I just want these guys to have it too". Zero sum thinking is hard to beat, but we must

In the same way that B99 was at its best when it was also being a decent procedural, Galaxy Quest because it was a great Trek movie. Parody is at its best when it's closest to its subject. Something lost, sadly, on a lot of people who try it.

I pften found it funniest when it was also good sci-fi though. S3-4 were my favourites. Although it could be argued that it peaked at Polymorph.

Then they have to justify their position, and begin constructing myths of meritocracy, finding ways to blame the less lucky for their own misfortune so they don't feel guilty about not wanting to be part of a distributive, supportive society.

"More conservative as you age" was always a convenient myth amongst the middle class, who simply grow more protective of wealth as they accrue it. Everything else is window dressing. People who by sheer luck find themselves with two garages suddenly realise they're paying more tax, and resent it.

A lot of it, honestly, comes from media illiteracy in sci-fi fandom. Surface- reading, empathy deficient nerds reading stories about the ethical quandaries raised by sentient AI and thinking "yeah this is a deep story about how we should treat machine intelligence when it happens" instead of...
