I really don’t understand Jonas’ 2024 TDF especially with the 2025 context we now have. He improved from 2023 to 2024 despite a severely impaired prep but doesn’t seem to have improved as much as you’d expect in 2025 from that 2024 performance?

I just don’t think Almeida’s got it in him to fight for a grand tour win right now. Mentally, he’s just not quite there. Next year he needs to work on that and his explosiveness and then who knows. He‘s looked closer than anyone else to be able to compete with Jonas. Let’s see at the tour next year

Going into week 3 of the Vuelta, I’d never have believed that we might have an actual GC fight on our hands. I think that we all know the inevitable ending but the fact that there’s a glimmer of hope for a battle going on until Saturday is really fun

Also think this reinforces that Joao Almeida is far far more valuable for the team than Juan Ayuso right now. Of course Ayuso probably has a much higher margin for improvement but he’s the team player and right now he looks pretty close to Pog’s biggest rival
