33) #HeroLaKill (fic and art by Aduubo) "Slow-burn romance between Izuku Midoriya and 'forgotten childhood friend' Ryuko Matoi" shouldn't work. "MHA and KLK share a universe" shouldn't work. I shouldn't still be invested after 57 chapters of repetitive prose. But it does, and I am.

Whatever gripes I might have with the pacing, the sentence structure, etc... None of it manages to be a deal-breaker when the character interactions are this much fun. I love watching Izuku and Ryuko influencing each other, watching them grow into different people than their canon selves without becoming unrecognizable. I love the passion for both series bleeding through every other sentence. It all takes me back to my MFRP days, and I love it for that.

It's not for everyone, but it's enough for me.

Also, the comic dubs / audio dramas Aduubo makes on the side give me so much fucking life. If nothing else, you gotta at least check those out.

32) #Weapons movie Went to see this last week, and forgot to bring it up here. Not because it was bad or anything, though. I didn't expect it to lean more towards the latter side of "horror comedy", but hey, we take those.

31) #FantasticFourFirstSteps If I had a nickel for every really good superhero summer blockbuster released this year that owed its success to fully embracing the cheesy charm, the optimistic heart and soul that gave birth to the genre in the first place... idk. This film was just terrific.

Johnny Storm steals the show for me. I really liked how he was portrayed as a legit scientist with an legit reason for being on the team besides being Sue's brother. Also, Johnny and Ben being able to actually enjoy each other's company >>>>>

30) Spider-Man VS Deku #DEATHBATTLE At this point, I'm fully convinced Moro doesn't require sleep. Christ. While this is definitely his weakest DB animation by far (a bit too slow / reference-heavy in a few too many places)... I mean, it's still a Moro episode. It's still a good DB episode.

Also, the Deku memes spawned from this fight are so funny, they've kept me on Twitter. Just the fact that they went from slandering Deku to making him a fucking street-sweeping SCP...

I was originally gonna have this be the only image here, but my brother was watching me type and he told me to do both. Because Spider-Man always does both.

Big strong lady with a wild mane of hair in a pretty dress? Hell yeah, I’m there day one. No need to turn her into goonerbait! No need to force focus away from the rest of the design!

I’mma be real: Barghest would be a 10/10 character design if her tits weren’t twice the size of her head.

It's never too late. You're never too old. The joy of transformative work is for everyone. 🖤

A tumblr post from user astramachina:

saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.

her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.

icon. legend. diva. i wish her nothing but a kajillion million comments and kudos. i hope her fic updates crash AO3. i hope she knows i'm promoting her to my personal patron saint of AO3.

29) #Superman One of THE most unapologetically "comic-book-ass" comic book movies since The Avengers 2012. It's so genuinely stupid, so genuinely goofy, so genuinely... I dunno, GENUINE in every single thing it does. And it's so valid for that. #GunnsFiringOnAllCylinders

28) #KPopDemonHunters Animation? Phenomenal! Soundtrack? Great! Characters? Fun! Enough...! Plot? Formulaic to a sometimes-frustrating extent... Overall? Maybe THE 7/10 of all time.

27) #WaxAndWayne Book 4: The Lost Metal That's #Mistborn era 2 done and dusted. What a fucking ride, man. It's like if The Legend of Korra had somehow managed to fully surpass The Last Airbender. I love LOK, but W&W does LOK better than LOK. And I dunno what more needs to be said from me.

Okay, I lied. One more thing I need to say.

I need y'all to know that Wayne Terrisborn gives me faith in the solitary strength of the written word. Brandon Sanderson's prose is terrific in general, but Wayne's especially is just so fun to read all the damn time that I think adapting this story to any other medium... I dunno, man. We'd lose something special in the process.

I still WANT a Mistborn adaptation, because goddamn, does Sanderson deserve more eyes on his work. But that's besides the point.

What a standout character in an already fantastic cast.

26) #Pokemon Minced Fusions Definitely the least polished ROM hack I've played so far, and the edgy-to-lol-randumb writing took a while to grow on me. But man, they COOKED with a lot of the fusion designs. So much charm and personality, cool and cursed alike!

From left to right:
Pangoronin the Golislash,
Fae Long the Hydreible,
Winefeld the Carnitrix,
Krysalista the Beautiwrath,
DC/AC the Xurmortar
and Majora the Cofagrgian

25) Wile E. Coyote VS Tom Cat #DEATHBATTLE Scooby VS Courage? Bugs VS Mickey? Nah, THIS was always the peak toon-force matchup in my eyes. So I'm very pleased to say that, for as tall of an order as it was, DB team knocked it outta the park. Probably my third favorite of the Kickstarter era so far.

24) #GuiltyGearStrive: Dual Rulers Man, I prefer Blazblue as a whole, but it really isn't allowed to have ANYTHING over Guilty Gear nowadays. It's like "Alright, in what area haven't we outshone BB yet? [...] Oh, yeah, tie-in anime series! Hey, why don't we make GG's actually fun to watch?"

What I'm about to say might go against God's teachings, but Baiken would be peak character design if she just got minor breast reduction surgery. I'm talking a singular cup's difference. Still big, but not "goonerbait character" big, y'know?

23) #SlayThePrincess It was horrifying. It was hilarious. It was tragic, and it was BEAUTIFUL. It was a game I needed to play on the 7th anniversary of a rough breakup, a game that made me finally confront certain feelings in ways years of therapy never could. @blacktabbygames.com, thank you.

You're on a path in the woods. At the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a princess. You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world.

Contrarian is best voice, and best Princess... fuck, that's a hard one.

22) Simon the Digger VS Kyle Rayner #DEATHBATTLE Another episode I've been dreading for years, another episode where how much I enjoyed it REALLY depended on whether my guy won or lost. And now that it's out... I mean, it's a 6 or 7 outta 10. So pretty much a better Joker VS Giorno, all around.

The animation was kinda choppy / poorly placed, and I think the voicework could've used a few more takes here and there. But when it got hype, it got PRETTY FUCKING HYPE, MAN. And the characterization was great throughout the whole episode.

Most importantly, though (and massive spoilers)...

MY GUY SIMON GOT HIS W AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

21) #Thunderbolts* Never did I have less faith in a MCU flick upon its announcement, and never has an MCU flick shoved my own foot in my mouth quite like this. The emotional core is super strong and the villain defeat was so fucking satisfying that I actually yelled in the theater. I'm sorry.
