I did this with the bartender and Ansur despite being a “goofy two shoes” (I think Astarion rubbed off on my Tav).

Did nobody vote for Endacopia to be nominated? It’s a really cool little indie game, and almost none of the of the big video game review sites (save for @pcgamer.com , where I first heard about it) have reviewed it or nominated it for GOTY. It’s tied for Mewgenics for my favorite music of 2026

(I only use the term ‘slop’ for things that have been proven to be made with AI, & not for anything created by a human, but that’s its own rant. I messed around a bit w/ genAI back when it was dogshit (I never used it in my art), but stopped when I found out the environmental damage it did.)

There’s also the argument that some have made that anything anyone doesn’t like is “Capitalist shill slop made for ppl who refuse to think critically”. Ppl have different opinions. I’ve met ppl who had favorite movies or games I could not fathom the appeal of, but their enthusiasm was genuine.

I defended Astarion’s autonomy the entire game even w/o knowing what his ‘deal’ was, I don’t want to be someone who fundamentally misunderstands my favorite character (even if he’s fictional & can’t tell us what side he takes in this, none of the characters can).

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 16h

I ended up deleting some of my social media accounts (I’m keeping Tumblr, Bluesky, & Discord) bc I was getting a lot of stress over ppl telling me if I liked the Astarion book that I was getting off to abuse or laughing at others’ trauma or disrespecting Stephen Rooney’s writing. I felt sick.

I follow a lot of my friends on ko-fi or vgen, & I apologize if this doesn't actually translate into me commissioning anyone. I have very low income, money coming in has always been extremely inconsistent, and I maybe can only make 1-2 purchases period per year & have to be super selective.

I've had some interest in 'Dressmaker', but I'm interested in making things that aren't dresses (an option that might either come later or even never to the game, from what I've been told), so I may just look into finally sitting down & sewing my own stuff IRL, which is a skill I've never learned.

He could still be sex repulsed in the book. He could be forcing himself to do something he doesn’t enjoy because he’s reduced to a single personality trait by his abuser, and trying to tell himself it’s not bad, he enjoys it, it’s fine, he’s not traumatized, etc.

120

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I was a fan of the sex repulsed headcanon, but I always figured I was projecting my own demisexuality onto my “blorbo”.

110

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I also worry talking about my own stories means I’m weaponizing my own abuse. Or making it sound worse than it actually is. That isn’t my intent, I was just trying to explain where I was coming from thought wise.

100

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

It is a fair critique to say “just bc Cazador feels relatable to some abuse survivors doesn’t mean what is written is consistent to the way Astarion‘s abuse is portrayed in game.” Every abuse case is different. I was just thinking of all the times my own abuse wasn‘t believed & got defensive.

100

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I could see BG3 interpreting Astarion‘s trauma manifesting either as sex revulsion or hypersexuality (I know these are two extremes, but I could see him feigning more of an interest in it than he actually has bc he’s been wired to believe it’s all he exists for).

100

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I apologize for getting defensive over the book. It’s not a 1/5 or a 5/5 for me so far, somewhere in the middle truthfully. I’ve been focusing on the parts I do like bc I think it does some stuff well. I admit I also get touchy over stuff like abuse & bi rep due to personal experience.

I don’t like everything in the book & genuinely feel terrible for getting defensive over it. I think Astarion reminds me of an ex whose trauma I failed to help them with, & I admit my desire to heal (or have gone back im time and prevented entirely) his trauma is me projecting.

110

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I have not had the time, but will only watch if it is even-handed as a critique and not entirely negative.

100

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I also genuinely didn't pick up on any lore inconsistencies! I'm someone who romanced Astarion & regularly absorbs any canon content involving him. I could read all the lines perfectly in Neil and Stephen Rooney's voices.

010

medacris | Comms Open ( https://vgen.co/medacris ) @medacris.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

Loved the way it handled his abuse. My ex was hypersexual due to past SA, & Cazador's cruelty reminded me of some of the verbal abuse I recieved. I love how kind Astarion is under everything, it makes me swoon. He's very pansexual & very funny. Cazador being a bastard makes killing him cathartic.

Especially in the long covid era, having all your friends slowly fade away because you are having a terrible time and not feeling your best self is systemic. It's both isolating and radicalizing, and sending solidarity to people in this position! Along with suggestions from my personal experience.
