Where is the fan art for Wild Seed by Octavia Bulter or the Lilith Brood Trilogy? Where is the fan art for Dead CatTails Assassins by P Djeli Clark? Who is an artist that I can commission to get them created because it seems like all of my favorite books have little to no character art 😭 #booksky

Love this from @benstiller.redhour.com. Variety and NYT published stories today that framed SINNERS, which just scored the highest grossing opening weekend for an original movie since Jordan Peele's pre-pandemic US, as a pyrrhic box office victory. This stinks. Who's being served here?

Screenshot of Ben Stiller saying "In what universe does a 60 million dollar opening for an original studio movie warrant this headline?"

This is in response to Variety running a story questioning the eventual profitability of SINNERS, which just opened to $61 million against a $90 million budget.

It’s wild seeing #SINNERSmovie get backhanded reviews from *certain* publications. “yes, it did well BUT ____” Folks were saying a year or two ago movie theatres were dying but a non-franchise got people there its opening weekend. So what’s up?

I see so many people blaming the publisher for the B&N failure over Oathbound, & I want to add one thing to the conversation: these decisions are NOT made by the marketing & social media teams who I know LOVE this book. It’s upper management/executives failing to prioritize marketing it.

For the parents who have children who are reading middle age books. Honestly I’ve read most of these myself and loved them. My favorite is “The Last Cuentista”is a Sci-Fi novel and it’s about a girl uses storytelling to resist memory-erasing oppressors in space. #booksky #booktok #childrenbooks

Speaking of Saara El-Arifi, let’s talk about one of my favorite book series of ALL TIME, The Ending Fire Trilogy. This series set the standard for me with epic fantasy. It also has one of my favorite characters of all time: Hassa. I honestly haven’t shut up about it for the last two years 😂 #booksky

Highlights for the final strife by Saara El-Arifi

In a world divided by blondelines, where societal status is determined by the color of their blood, 3 women from differing backgrounds are bound by a common goal to overthrow an oppressive empire: Sylah, stolen as a child from the ruling Ember class was raised as the tool for the revolution, Anoor, born a duster but secretly switched with Sylah, that grew up believing she was an Ember, and Hassa, a ghosting with greatest power to spark change because she is viewed as having no power at all.

Hearing the news that a trans man was murdered and tortured breaks my heart. It’s especially triggering because, almost 19 years ago, my uncle, who was gay, was murdered by two men. He was stabbed 25 times and set on fire alive in the trunk of his car. It still haunts me to think of how he suffered.

I think the idea that white authors get a pass for not telling full and complicated and HONEST stories because they don’t “understand our lived experience” is so infantilizing. If they don’t pick up a book and LEARN just like everybody else has to!

THIS IS MY OPINION. But I don’t think any of us should be buying Beyoncé nor Taylor swift concert tickets. I like B’s music, but there’s no such thing as an ethical billionaire. We talk about not supporting corporations & fighting inflation, yet we willingly give a billionaire more money 😕
