A while back I reached out to a mid-level publisher about getting a review copy of a game. They asked if I could meet with them at Essen, Gencon or somewhere else overseas in person Because i couldn't they declined to send me review copies because they need to get to know the people involved first

Privelege matters. Some people can opine about the ethics of being a reviewer because they don't have the same obstacles in their way. Some people don't have money, access, the "right" gender, status. They think they got to where they are just out of pure hard work and sheer integrity. BALONEY.
