Trying a new design for Beaver's homescreen: a scrolling page with sections you can re-order, and a fixed header (dubbed the canopy) that gets smaller when you scroll up. Feels very webby, not just a boring icon grid. Still WIP (no way to add / remove content yet...) but I think I like it!

We started to implement hardware APIs: so far we have screen control (brighness and on/off), as well as device shutdown & reboot. Next on the list is power source status and a idle detection API. Very happy with how closer to a BeaverPhone / BeaverDesk this starts to look like!

🦫 Beaver's internal pages for networking error and directory listing now use the design tokens from the current theme. Pretty happy with how nice they look!

I did an experiment in Beaver: 1) Followed mu.social/profile/opw.... 2) Synced this new repo in Beaver. 3) Drilled into the records for the new lexicons, using the generic full text search works if you know what you're looking for. Of course that calls for custom views and smarter notifications!

Just merged the support for previews on hover for a few records types in the ATProto feed viewer of Beaver 🦫 I learned quite a bit building this feed viewer and will try to write that down before deciding the next steps implementation-wise.

Getting Beaver's ATProto feed closer to something I can daily drive: - displaying only the new posts/records since last refresh. - previews for various kind of records. Now I want it to be really usable! Also idly wondering if I should look into ActivityPub & RSS/Atom feeds.

Lots of improvement in Beaver's AtmosFeed: - follows the OS theme. - infinite scroll. - filter by record type. - better profile display for users you don't follow. - local search. - like and repost. All this without an AppView, straight to and from your PDS. Creating posts are coming next!

Step 2: we index the text from records, and extract urls. This let us search records and urls from the universal search box in Beaver. If the page you browse is a known urls, you can check who in your ATProto graph has mentioned it.

Big screens tend to be shared, communal devices. So what about allowing friends to join in temporarily? For that we added a guest mode that acts as ephemeral pairing. Deactivating the guest mode instantly drops all the guest connections.

🦫 alert! We have a new form factor for big screens! Introducing the "Media Center" form factor! The background of the ambient screen is a WebGL shader, many from www.shadertoy.com will just work. We also implemented spatial navigation to navigate Web pages with keys found on typical remotes.

It's unfortunate but very much true that browsing today's web without a content blocker is not a great experience. The 🦫 browser now has support for EasyList block lists thanks to the AdBlock crate (docs.rs/adblock/late...) that any Servo embedder can hook up easily.

Ok, indeed having a stable tile:// url with updatable content if you can verify integrity would be ideal. Tbh I'm not fully sure which CID is for what yet :) But I hacked a bit and it's loading tiles! Still a bunch of cleanup and details to work on, but it's coming along:

A couple of questions: 1. Is the CID at the root of the `ing.dasl.masl` document a good option for the "identity" of a tile? 2. Is is AtProto specific, or id it also stable when used with another underlying store/transport?
