Now seems like a great time to remind Western faculty members that we have a site license for gradescope that allows parallel, distributed TA grading. It’s much more efficient for everyone than grading by hand and I also stopped getting paper cuts once I started using it.

I’ve seen the same things as a supervisor and thesis examiner, and feel the same way. When so many of your graduate students don’t speak English as their first language, this is a huge change.

Morbid feeling of ... pride? ... on finding the first AI generated citation for a paper that I didn't write and know nothing about.
citation from a paper - M. Domaratzki and K. Salomaa, “Codes and graph Fourier transforms for directed graphs,”
in Proc. IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2020, pp. 2486–2491. - it doesn't exist, don't try to find it.
