M. Derbecker @mderbecker.bsky.social · 15hI liked Birdman when I didn't want to throw things at it (appreciated the gonzo but got tired of the winking). Digger is winking and wearing a Kubrick mask so I am wary. 000
M. Derbecker @mderbecker.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I'm strangely supportive of unexpected strip-mall places, there are more than a few in Hamilton that are far better than they should be. But so much of the Toronto scene gets bought-out or simply gives up due to landlords that even when great, it is fleeting. 000

M. Derbecker @mderbecker.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Respectfully; Montreal beats Toronto for food in terms of volume and reliability. There are very good places in Toronto. But in true Toronto style, they rarely last. This from a former Torontonian (now Hamilton) with a weakness for NY restaurants, especially The Dutch. 100

M. Derbecker @mderbecker.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Montreal, for all its merits, is nit the Canadian New York (it just has a good scene and hood food). Nor is Toronto, which lacks the same level of scene and food. 340
M. Derbecker @mderbecker.bsky.social · 05/10/2026And full disclosure; I run Storytelling events in Hamilton, a place around an hour away from Toronto. Save for a handful of places, the streets roll up at 10pm Mon to Wed, then gey active Thurs to Sat before Sunday's roll up. 140
M. Derbecker @mderbecker.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Legit question - what day was your show? Weeknights are surprisingly quiet in Montreal, Thurs to Sat most place open to midnight at the least. 140

M. Derbecker @mderbecker.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I have not seen it yet. But I am getting Terry Southern 'Candy' and 'The Magic Christian' vibes (Candy in particular - Magic Christian works in spite of itself occasionally). Both elbowed the audience in the ribs repeatedly and it gets old. 000
