As a fellow cynic, I feel you. But I don't see it happening. Too many people have too much to gain by getting past him.

There are at least 20 states that wouldn't put him on the ballot, maybe as many as 30. Of course those are the blue/purple states anyway, but if that happens, it's the end of the Union. There's enough political power left in the GOP to demand a successor rather than that debacle.
