This from The Sutton Trust. Having experienced this myself, I sadly can’t say I’m surprised. It’s why my accent has changed lots over the years. Still so many people who think that: A) a different accent makes you uneducated/backwards B) it’s acceptable to voice these opinions #AcademicSky

Another example in the Guardian of just how deranged and dangerous the government have become. Suella Braverman calling the Human Rights Act the Criminal Rights Act is, frankly, outrageous and unacceptable. We desperately need these people out of power #GeneralElectionN0W

Using Suramin to prevent the CNS stage of the disease, we showed that the accumulation of meningeal GL7+ CD95+ GC-like B cells, the deposition of autoreactive antibodies, and the resulting cortical demyelination depend upon parasite accumulation in the CNS. 6/8

We next decided to explore the nature of the host antigens recognised by the infection-induced autoantibodies. We found several antigens commonly detected in mice and chronic HAT patients, including myelin basic protein, coinciding with the demyelination we see in this model. 5/8

We also showed that in addition to plasma cells, there was a fraction of CD19+ B cells that expressed GL7 and CD95 during infection, confirming their germinal centre-like phenotype, potentially explaining the generation and deposition of local autoantibodies. 4/8

Unfortunately, in our hands, meningeal myeloid depletion with liposomes (or other genetic models) during chronic infection resulted in exacerbated pathology and precluded us from addressing whether mononuclear phagocytes drive local T cell activation at this stage 3/8

First, we confirmed the presence of CXCR5+ PD1+ IL-21+ Tfh-like CD4+ T cells in the infected meninges. In collaboration w/ @BendingLab, we found signs of new & persistent CD4+ T cell activation, but CD8+ responses seem more transient. See Nur77Tempo: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36704407/ 2/8
