When people say stuff like this, they should just say ME-2. Maine’s got a blue house, blue senate, split federal senate seats for decades, a blue governor, and is more progressive than all but about 10-12 states. this joke is getting old.

Is it intentionally unfunny, actually funny, trying to be funny and failing, or none of the above? “Yes.”

This review is GREAT. I left the theater thinking it was kind of a secretly cynical masterpiece, but I’ve been growing toward this version of interpretation over the hours. Thank you for writing it, hell yes.

It's like 2.5 hours from the Portland airport to the Monhegan Ferry, and then over an hour on the boat. Sure Roberts probably took private transport for most of it, but even so, imagine taking this, like, many-step journey to a spot waaay out there & then immediately getting yelled at by island folk

Every Antrim book is perfect: a 200-page narrative in the general shape a Henry Green novel-of-manners about a self-loathing man who really, really needs a hug. I am grateful for the ones we have; if he wrote one a year I would devour them like they're the Slough House books

New Donald Antrim has a date, a title and a cover, let's fucking GO www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/752470...
McMahon meme reacting to descriptions of Donald Antrim's forthcoming "My Eliot" ... in order:

1. "Lost in the house he grew up in, haunted by the ghost of his younger sister and his strange, cruel parents, and with the love of his life, Paula, zipping around town in a sportscar"

2. the words "our narrator Donald Antrim" highlighted

3. the words "Instead of writing his book, Donald spends his time with the technicolor trees, talking to a possum named Tom, pursuing the phantom of a little boy, and trying to win back his beloved Paula."

4. "Pages: 224"

to me the irony is that if you have this much cynicism whereby you view voters as this easily manipulable bloc of dummies, then what is the difference between you and a median republican other than you not having a successful strategy to win elections

There was a Charlie Rose interview with Richard Ford where he asked him, right outta the gate, "is it true your father died in your arms?!?!" and Ford just pauses and goes "well ... yes!" and I can't find the clip but the delivery was exactly like ... where the hell else was he supposed to die?

Wrote about failed ebike startup Rad Power Bikes for @inc.com As I was fussing with pitching this story, the company filed for bankruptcy and then a warehouse of its bikes caught on fire. Ever have a metaphor just ... land in your lap?
inc.com
Rad Power Bikes Was an E-Bike Unicorn. Then Everything Blew Up
The startup had everything: ambition, market share, a $1.65 billion valuation, diehard fans, and the wind at its back. Is that what killed it?

The shift from Zimmer/Lee Smith to Lame/Goransson is so exceptional. The (perfect) first hour of Tenet really set the tone for Oppenheimer and Odyssey. Lame understood that the first act of Batman Begins and the last act of Inception can exist in the same movie and run throughout.

Nolan's movies are very intentionally made, no less intentionally than Lynch or Bresson or whoever. Creating tiers of "populist" film or dumb-guy cinema diminishes all of it. Or even go listen to, like, Shawn Levy talk camera lenses and scores. He's not a *good* artist imo, but he's ALSO an artist.

Additionally, the craft, meaning the spectacle, the scale, the bombast is also artistic. Do so something like make that movie is to be an artist. Hundreds of artists working on that thing every day, in fact.
